Ochos Rios and Grand Caymen port questions.

Heading on vacation aboard the Carnival Glory 11/1 with my husband and 2 kids ages 6 and 8.

We are stopping in Jamaica and Grand Caymen and have booked the stingray and rum point excursion for Grand Caymen.

has anyone done this excursions and if so, is it worth the cost? Will it be appropriate for kids?

Also, what is near the port of calls in case we do not want to do an excursion? Are there beaches and shops close by to Ochos Rios and Grand Caymen??

Thanks for any input!

The stingrays are an unforgettable experience, and you'll find lots of threads in this forum about them and about Rum Point beach.

In Cayman, the ships usually tender right into the middle of the downtown area where there are lots of shops and restaurants, and a museum. Good sections of the famous Seven Mile Beach with free restrooms and showers, beach bars, rental watersports, etc. are Royal Palms, Tiki Beach and Sea Grape, and all are about a $4-6 taxi ride away and are thus very easy to get to on your own. Again, there's lots of threads about that here in this forum.

You'll likely get better info on Ocho Rios in the Jamaica forum...

If your lucky it won't be windy and they go to the back side of the island where you will need to take a taxi back to town. Here is a pic of that port.

The best part is the beach is free.
