Hi there cbmagic,

Yes the Cathedral is walking distance from the port - just turn right and keep going along the waterfront. You will be able to see it quite clearly from the ship. (It's lovley at the sail-away to see it illuminated as you leave.) It's all level but a fair distance - perhaps a good half to three quarters of an hour - more if strolling.

To save time you can catch the Linea 1 bus which stops at the turning circle just in front of the port entrance. They run about every 15 minutes and will take you along the waterfront most of the way towards the Cathedral. You get on at the Port de Palma and it will probably have Aeroport on the front.

Here is a link to the timetable:

You need to get off when it makes a left turn off the waterfront (I think that's Passeig Mallorca). Retrace your way back to the waterfront, turn left and carry on to the Cathedral - you can't miss it!!!!

One word of warning though - we had a similar plan when we were in Palma in June on our arrival day. We took our time going on the bus to Placa Espanya and weaving our way through the streets back to the Cathedral. It closed at 2pm so we couldn't get in! Here is a link which has a section on the Cathedral and gives the opening hours;

It depends on your flight arrival whether or not you will make it - but I must say it is a very impressive Cathedral. We visited it once before and it's definitely worth going if time allows. The little streets around the back of the Cathedral are very quaint too and there are loads of Mallorcan pearl shops.

Good luck with that. :)

thanks kruzseeka i think we land 10.15am so have to will have to see what we will have time to do .....cbmagic

That could be doable - we were an hour later arriving and got to the Cathedral at about 2.30 (very liesurely approach cos we didn't know there was a risk of it being closed).

I think even allowing for the very slow baggage reclaim at Palma :( you should be on board well before 12 - quick bite and if you get to the Cathedral by 1o/c you'd have time to have a good look around.

Hope you make it! :)

The Carrefour supermarket is in a different direction to the Cathedral....you will need to cross the main dual carriageway outside the port entrance and go up some steps to go up the hill which is at right angles to the dual carriageway....at the top of the hill is a shopping precinct on the left and the supermarket is underneath this....we actually missed it the first time we went and just thought there was ground level but there is quite a large underground level with Carrefour and some other shops. :)
