proudaunt Posted September 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Hello All! We are going on our first cruise ever in November! Luckily this will follow our commitment ceremony! We will be sailing on the Carnival Fantasy! We are not very affectionate in public but am wondering if there is anything certain we should be careful of or can we generally be ourselves on Carnival's ships? Thanks for any advice! satxdiver Posted September 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2011 The cruise ships are gay tolerant to the point that no one really cares. A lot of the crew on the ships are GL so the crew would not have any problems anyway. Since you don't suggest any big affection displays, be yourself, have a good time and relax. You will have a great time. If you get on the ship and find your stateroom has the beds separated, simply tell the room steward to put them together. They will do it. If you put it on your reservation, the beds should be together already. Most on the cruise are there to have a good time so join them.
COMBOY Posted September 6, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2011 Hello All! Having sailed on many cruises with all the major cruise lines I can say you shouldn't have to worry. Cruise lines are people friendly. The people that sail on these ships are generally socially tolerant and most couldn't care about your sexual orientation or if your in a same sex relationship. Yes, in a "rare" situation you could meet in a bar/lounge or be seated at a table in the dining with intolerable individual. This could happen anywhere in the world. If you feel uncomfortable with your table mates just ask the Maitre'd after dinner to change your table assignment. This is never a problem. I do believe that Carnival does or you can request a FOD/GLBT gathering/meetings in one of the lounges with the time/location published in the ship's newsletter. This is a great way to meet your fellow GLBT cruisers. Also check out the G&L Roll calls or start one for your sailing here in Cruisecritic. This way you are meet and chat with your fellow GLBT prior to your sailing. Several years ago I did two RSVP all-gay charters on Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Celebration. The crew couldn't have been more friendly and few of the crew were GLBT too!

colocop004 Posted September 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2011 The Fantasy or the Ecstacy? Either way you will have a blast!! I have sailed on the Ecstacy three times in the past! She is a little older, but a great ship!!
muliama Posted September 12, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 12, 2011 Hi everyone...like proudaunt, my partner and I will be going on our first cruise on Celebrity Century from Auckland Jan 6 AND we have arranged a Commitment Ceremony and reception on board through Pied Piper. I don't know how gay commitment ceremonies work, but the Information sheet stated the "groom" will wait in the romantic place and the "bride" will be escorted from our cabin!! Hmmm, to be stereotyped so early is a bit of a worry! We are both a bit nervous but after a champagne or six, I am sure we will cope. Good luck to the two of you in November.
