threeputtlewy Posted September 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2011 We are just in the planning stages of a vacation in 2013. A river cruise might be in the cards. Has anybody ever golfed or been on a river cruise where golf was offered? Thanks in advance Threeputtlewy
Paulinda Posted September 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Wow! I hope you don't plan on bringing your own clubs. I doubt there is enough time in a port to do even 9 holes unless you find a lighted course open 24/7 and don't intend to sleep. Perhaps a mini-golf course? You really would be missing out on the cultural aspects of the cruise if you did so. If you really have to golf you should intend on doing an extended stay and do so before/after the cruise. Wormy53 Posted September 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2011 I would personally be interested for any feedback you receive. The DH does love his golf!!!! And I can be equally entertained by any cultural aspects that the cruise has to offer!!!:)
Condocat Posted September 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2011 We haven't done this from a river boat, but I can't say it isn't out of the realm of possibilities with some planning. You'd have to coordinate a lenghty docking time, sometimes a ship can be in port from 8am-6pm at a destination that is close to a golf course of interest. Call ahead for the earliest tee time, get a cab or prearrange a car rental company to meet you at the dock and you're all set! I'd leave the clubs at home and just rent a set. Could be a fun adventure! We actually did this in NZ while cruising on Oceania some years ago. It makes for a nice break especially when the weather is good. Have fun planning! ingo_e Posted September 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2011 APT offers a "golf" version of their "Magnificent Europe" Budapest - Amsterdam cruise: http://www.aptouring.com.au/Tour/EUMCRG15 http://www.aptouring.com.au/Tour/EUMCG15 But that itinerary is not valid for 2012 :/
ddschur Posted September 19, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2011 For golf cruises, you might want to check out: Perry Golf http://www.perrygolf.com or Kalos which is http://www.kalosgolf.com both offer golf cruises and, I think, offer things to do for non-golfers.
