D4 Posted September 17, 2011 #26 Share Posted September 17, 2011 How long would the walk be from the center of Rome to Trastevere or did you take a taxi?]If it is hot or your time in Rome is limited, I'd recommend a taxi. It is early Oct. time is not a problem, how long is the walk? Can you be more specific on where you consider the center of Rome to be?
Softball20 Posted September 17, 2011 #27 Share Posted September 17, 2011 After touring the coliseum, we found a local place for lunch and walked some more as we made our way back to Trastevere How long would the walk be from the center of Rome to Trastevere or did you take a taxi? From our hotel in Trastevere (the Hotel San Francesco) to the Coliseum, I want to say that it took us about 30 - 45ish minutes or so. We weren't walking particularly fast, and I know that we stopped for a beer from a street vendor along the way as it was late June and pretty hot. We were planning on taking a taxi back -- but we just kept walking and finally found our hotel - it took a bit longer as we got kind of twisted up, but it worked. euro cruiser Posted September 17, 2011 #29 Share Posted September 17, 2011 The historic center of Rome pretty much radiates out from the Pantheon (Piazza della Rotonda). From there the Colosseum is about a mile to the southeast, the Vatican is about a mile to the west, the Spanish Steps are about three quarters of a mile to the north, Trastevere is about a mile south, and Termini (the main train station) is about a mile and a half east. crenee44 Posted September 18, 2011 #30 Share Posted September 18, 2011 We had a similar schedule and our plan worked out really well. We went straight to the hotel near the Pantheon from the airport. Some people napped, some explored and we all met up in the late afternoon. That evening we just walked around the city on foot. The next morning we took a walking tour of ancient Rome (fourm and colosseum) with Epic Rome tours that was fantastic. The nice thing was that the guide kept us on track and on time. We really enjoyed it. After the tour, we went back to the Pantheon area to pick up our luggage that the hotel stored for us and met our transfer to the ship.
