First Canada New England Cruise

Hi!

I would just walk around in Quebec City, it's such a neat place, very European. There's a lower town with a funicular to the area up by the Chateau.

If you don't have tides where you live I'd go to Hopewell Rocks where you can see the tide & walk on the ocean floor at low tide. There's a nice museum there too.

Halifax is also a nice place to walk around or maybe there's an excursion to Peggy's Cove, a neat rocky area/fishing village with it's own post office in the lighthouse..There could also be a stop to the monument in memory of Swissair flight 111. Halifax has quite a connection to the Titanic disaster if you're interested in that, lots of grave markers in the cemetery.

Sydney, I don't think I've been to so can't comment.

Hope you have a great time in Canada. The scenery is beautiful especially if the leaves are turning colour.

Any suggestions of what not to miss in Quebec, St. Johns, Halifax, Sydney? We are sailing on the Crown Princess on September 24.

Checked your itinerary and you are not going to St. John's, Newfoundland but rather Saint John, New Brunswick. Major difference and often confused. That is why the "Saint" in Saint John is always spelled out in full.

Enjoy

If you go back to the Ports of Call - Canada page and scroll down you should find many previous posts.

You should also find the Roll Call for your cruise and see what other people are doing. You may be able to join a private tour.

For Halifax you can simply stroll the waterfront and up Spring Garden Road. Highlights are the Maritime Museum, Public Gardens, and (if you can climb it or take a taxi) Citadel Hill. You can take a short, fun tour on land and sea called the Harbour Hopper. The sales kiosk is along the waterfront but there may be one in the cruise terminal as well.

Another possibility for Halifax is to rent a car and go to Peggy's Cove.

For Sydney, the best choice in my opinion is to rent a car and go to Fortress Louisbourg. This will take you back in time to 1744 to the town which has been partially reconstructed according to original plans. People in period costume play the roles of actual people who lived there. You can eat in authentic restaurants or pubs from that era.

Another possibility is to rent a car and go to the lovely village of Baddeck. This is a scenic drive, especially if you carry on to Iona to visit the Highland Village. Here is a map showing that route:
