travbee Posted March 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2005 Just wondered if you can walk to some of the sights, such as Totem Poles, etc or is it too far. We haven't booked anything yet for Ketchikan but need to decide quickly. Thanks Barbara
Time2sail Posted March 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2005 We were told this is a great place to kayak so we booked this with Southeast Kayak through Orca Enterprises or you can book directly with Southeast. We are in port there for a short period of time and hope we can walk around the town for a while after the excursion.
cruiser2004 Posted March 30, 2005 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2005 Barbara, The Totem Poles, at Saxon village, are several miles from the pier. Creekstreet is a must see and is a short walk from the pier. They also have a city bus that stops near the pier, just before the tunnel. One of the two routes does a circle around Ketchikan and takes about one hour. The cost last year was $1.50. If you have any other questions please post. We are on the May 14 Island cruise. Enjoy your cruise! John & Suzanne
Budget Queen Posted March 31, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2005 Saxman Village is 2++ miles from Downtown, but REQUIRES a tour for the commentary. There are plenty of totems in town, Whale Park, go up the funicular and head out back of the Fox, at the entrance to Creek St. etc. Pick up a walking tour map at the dock visitor center.
