Weather on Bahamas cruise from charleston leaving next week?

Trying to figure out what to pack. And is it crazy to bring 2 rolling suitcases (one large one for checking and one medium one for carry on?...I checked the sizes with carnivals size policy, but they still seem pretty big.) Unfortunately I don't have many rolling options. Its a 5 day cruise. Was wondering how hard it will be to maneuver onto the ship and while waiting for our room.

And can I bring one carry on suitcase and a smaller shoulder bag as well?

How is the weather on deck...need long sleeve or is it like being in port on a warm day?

Are the dining rooms on carnival (Fantasy) air conditioned like a regular rest. (which I think are freezing!)

I saw the posts one what not to forget and I'm getting my power strip now! Thanks!!!!!

You can bring as many carry on bags as you can maneuver, as long as they fit through the standard airport type scanner. But you will have to drag them around until 1:30p when you will have access to your cabin. You don't tell us where you are coming from, so I don't know what climate you will be dressed for...But the weather in Charleston should be mild, probably in the low 80's, chance of thunderstorms.

When you are packing, think of what you will be doing. You do not need to change clothes three times a day. I can do a five day cruise with a carryon. I wear good enough clothes to travel to the ship that I can wear them all day and to dinner. The next day you should be at sea, so if you are a pool person, you would want a bathing suit and coverup. Something nice for dinner, it should be an elegant night if you like to dress up.

Nassau and Freeport it will be warm and humid, wear something for summer.

Don't be afraid to wear something twice. Take no more than five pair of shoes.

Your large case will be checked with the porters before you enter the terminal, no worries there.

Take a shawl for the dining room or lounges if you think it will be too cold. There is usually a shop onboard that sells synthetic pashmina shawls in many colors for $10.

Don't know where you live but here in Charleston it is 89 degrees today :D

Sizes for Carnival are mostly for carry on since they must fit through the airport type xray scanner though for checked luggage it is more of a weight thing 50 lbs. You can carry on whatever you can carry so the extra shoulder bag is okay. Don't carry on too much unless you are planning on checking in after 130pm when the cabins are ready to you can get rid of it or else you will be carting it around until then.

It is warm on deck during the day with the sun beating down. At night it can be a little cooler but not much since you are heading south.

I also get chilled in the dining room so I always have a wrap or light sweater I bring along.

The busiest times for loading the ship are 11 am to noon and then again around 1 pm this is for Charleston. I helped run one of the shuttles two weeks ago and this was the down time right at lunchtime.

Thanks Diane and EM! Coming from NC so I'm used to the heat. I will try and remember to weigh the big one. Funny I don't normally overpack...but then again I don't normally have as much time to think about myself and make choices selfishly while on vacay :). So looking forward to this time away:)

Thanks!!!

Carnival doesn't really have a weight limit for your luggage, they are just trying to not kill the guys that bring it to your room...they have recommendations, unlike the airlines that have rules.

From their website:

In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, Carnival prohibits guests from bringing certain items on board, i.e., weapons, candles, irons, alcohol, or other dangerous goods. According to our policy, Carnival conducts security scanning of all baggage and if prohibited items are found, they will be removed and stored on board for safekeeping until the end of the voyage. The retained item(s) will be available for collection in onboard designated location on the morning of debarkation. Unsealed liquids that are prohibited will be discarded, as well as any unclaimed items left after the voyage, and no compensation will be given in either case. For additional information, please refer to the terms and conditions of your cruise ticket contract.

We suggest all luggage be unlocked before turning over to the porters in order to avoid any inconvenience to you or delay in delivering the luggage to your stateroom. Should you choose not to unlock your bags and prohibited items are found during screening, your luggage will be retained until you can open it in front of security personnel.

Guests, 21 years of age and older, may bring one bottle (750ml) of wine or champagne, per person, only in their carry-on luggage.

Guests are encouraged to limit their checked luggage to two suitcases per person, with each suitcase not to weigh more than 50 pounds and not exceed 16"H x 24"W (no length restrictions). Please attach your Carnival Cruise Lines luggage tags PRIOR to leaving home and make sure that they are still on your bags when checking in with us. In many ports, guests have the option of carrying luggage on board at embarkation and off the ship at the end of the cruise as long as it does not exceed 16"H x 24"W (no length restrictions). This is an advantage you may want to consider as it will allow for quicker easier access to your bags. Please note that Carnival assumes no responsibility for carry-on luggage.

Alternatively, curbside porters are available at the pier to take luggage to the vessel for delivery to your stateroom by shipboard personnel. Customary tip is $1 per bag. Please be sure each piece of luggage is unlocked and has a tag listing your name and stateroom number. Curbside porters are not employees of Carnival; therefore, if you experience any problems, please report them to porter management on site. Any luggage left at the pier will be forwarded at your expense. Claims for luggage loss or damage must be made in writing to the debarkation personnel prior to leaving the pier area.

If you are traveling by air, we strongly recommend that you contact your air carrier to obtain their luggage allowance policy for the maximum number, size and weight of bags that each guest is allowed at no charge. Guests are responsible for luggage fees, excess luggage charges as well as any other charges imposed by air carriers or airports. We recommend that each guest verify with the airline representative that their luggage is checked-in to their final destination.

For a 5 day you could get away with two or three dressier outfits, a handful of pool garb, your underwear, and your toiletries. We took one 50 lb. checked bag and a carry on each for a 12-day Med cruise this summer. To be fair, we get our laundry done on board free, so we pack lighter than we might. Unless you feel a real need to change clothes several times a day, you'll wear pool stuff during the day and on most shore excursions, and dress for dinner. We always change back to comfortable clothes after dinner, so you can wear the same outfit more than once. We also eat anytime, so we don't have the same table of people to remember what we wore.

For your first cruise, you'll take WAY too many clothes. You will also prepare for Armageddon with band-aids, batteries, and miscellaneous effluvia. You are taking a cruise, not moving to Sudan. Remember you'll be off the boat twice or three times, and the actually sell batteries and things like that in Mexico.

Relax, take what you like, and enjoy yourself! That's what cruising is all about.

Cheers.
