Birthday cakes

Plan on ordering a birthday cake for a roommate, her birthday is our last night on the cruise, my question is would it be better to order it before the cruise or wait til we are on the cruise and where would I order it after I am on the ship?? And if I want them to sing Happy Birthday to her, whom do I see or do I mention it to the waiters?

Thanks for all the replies. This is the last thing to be set up for the cruise..

You can order it onboard from formalities I think. I would wait to order it since you dont need it until they end. You can see the cakes onboard and it might make you choose different.

I agree. Our kids ordered cakes for my husband and me close to the end of our cruise. They went to the formalities shop to order them, and I believe at some point they told our waid staff they were coming.
