Getting Cash On Board

With traveler’s checks becoming an ancient relic, I now wonder:

Can I get cash on board Carnival ships with my ATM card?

I just don't like the idea of carrying around a couple thousand in cash, nor do I like the idea of using credit card in foreign ports (fraud potential)..

So what’s the best way to access cash throughout a two week B2B trip?

You can also get cash from your Sail and Sign card through the casino. They charge a percentage but it is usually less than the ATM charge.

Does this show up as a cash advance on your credit card that is associated to your S&S account? I know the credit card companies charge much higher interest for cash advance...provided you don't pay off your card in full each month that is..

What we do is go to the casino and charge money to our sail and sign account, which we back up with a credit card. Once the amount you charged registers on a slot machine you can than credit that money to your players account. Than just go to the cash cage and tell them you want to cash out your players account. There is no fee involved when you do it this way. We have seen a lot of people do this on our cruises.

I'm told that Amex is replacing Travelers Cheques with a prepaid card. I'm trying to find out how they work because I like the safety and convenience of Travelers Cheques too. I guess I'll have to do the credit card and casino thing to get cash for ports. The problem is the casino isn't open most days while in port.

OP do this above...its free.

I added $100 to a slot machine from my S&S account (there is an option to "charge your S&S account", follow the instructions and then go to the cashiers cage to get the cash. Took me 5 minutes at the most.

It just shows up as an onboard purchase for "Entertainment" on my S&S bill....nothing that says cash advance.

it comes up on the statement as entertainment.

Going to the casino-- using the cage will cost you 3% (and you use your sign and sail card.

going to the atm machine will cost you 5.00 plus whatever you bank charges.

Using your credit card-- you can put onboard credit to your account and take the money out of your sign and sail by using the slot machines. You gotta set it up using a 4 digit pin

I've read here that there are $$$ limits on doing this, so if someone wanted lots of cash, they might not get what they want.

From my recent cruise on the Miracle, the easiest way was to go through the casino. I tried using the atm and it was declined 3 times. I called my bank before I left on vacation & told them I would be making charges onboard a Carnival ship but the ATM still declined. When I got home I had a call from my bank from the fraud dept. they said they declined the ATM transactions because of the type of ATM machine Carnival uses is based out of Miami & the bank did not recognize it. I bank with a very well known bank & this really surprised me. So just beware.

It all depends on your credit card company, some have daily limits. Several months ago I came across a similar post. Another poster said that they would get $1000 per day to gain reward points on their credit card, than they would just take the money home with them and pay off their balance.

a VERY good reason people should let their bank know whats going on.

If you are using a credit card to secure you sign and sail account then just go to the casino and load Money onto your Casino account. Then cash out to your player bank. Then go to the casino Cage to get the cash from your player bank. Pretty simple and when we tried it there was no fee or percentage charged.
