If you're flying Lufthansa to Rome or Venice to catch a cruise, make sure you fly in at least a day before your cruise.

 

I had a horrible experience with them this past summer - they had 3 jumbo jets departing from Newark at almost the same time but only FOUR agents to check in nearly 1,000 people. You would think they would call in some additional help. No - their method of coping was to delay our flight until everyone could be checked in -over 3 hours waiting in line. Long story shortened - we boarded our ship in Barcelona at 4:20 p.m. for a 5:00 departure. Ten minutes more and we would have been denied boarding.

We had a similar experience this past weekend trying to get home from Venice. They had 2 agents for an airport full of passengers. I was not thrilled with their overall service either.
