phillipahain Posted April 1, 2005 #2 Share Posted April 1, 2005 From what I remember of the ports when we were there 5 yrs ago there was virtually nothing of note at all Things may have changed but you are talking about "the last frontier"
Druke I Posted April 1, 2005 #3 Share Posted April 1, 2005 Haven't found any outstanding restaurants in Alaska, but Vancouver BC has some great steak houses!
SharkieRools Posted April 1, 2005 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2005 Mmmmm - Fish on a Stick in the back of the Skagway Brewing Company. Like Fish and Chips, but you get a choice of Salmon or Halibut (or both!) skewered on a stick! :D Unfortunately I hear that the brewery and restaurant ares no longer there, it's only a gift shop now :( I hear the Skagway Fish Company is good though (near where the ships dock.) Don't worry -I'm sure others will chime in with more suggestions!
Host Caroline Posted April 2, 2005 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2005 The Hangar and the Twisted Fish in Juneau! You can find some info about both of these restaurants at http://juneaualaska.com/dining/ Twisted Fish has excellent halibut!
travelgirl87 Posted April 2, 2005 #6 Share Posted April 2, 2005 It's not seafood but we liked Bullwinkle's Family Pizza Parlor at 318 Willoughby in Juneau. It's near the Alaska State Museum. Good pizza and sandwiches for a reasonable price in a low key environment. Free popcorn while you're waiting for your order. There were a good number of folks there (seemed to be more a local crowd than a cruiseship one) but we could still find a table at lunchtime without much trouble. Also, stop in at the Taku smokehouse (near where the Coral docked) in Juneau. They have a free self-guided tour of the smoking process and offer free samples of their smoked salmon. Yummy! sibylcoe Posted April 2, 2005 #7 Share Posted April 2, 2005 I second what Caroline said about the Twisted Fish. The tempura halibut is wonderful!
