snownsun Posted October 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2011 Just wondering if anyone per chance has snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, Australia and the Western Caribbean, e.g. Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Labadee. Just wondering how the latter compares, as the GBR is awesome. Cheers, Bev:)
Burlington ON Posted October 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2011 We have dived in both places and there is no comparison - the Great Barrier Reef is the best by far. The corals are alive, colourful and varied, compared to those in the Caribbean which are, in the most part, dead and colourless. There is also a much greater variety of fish on the GBR. That said, the Caribbean is still enjoyable with lots to see. We still have some great experiences there.

Was out to Michaelmas Cay on the GBR just this past Sun. Absolutely awesome. It's our favourite for the bountiful colourful coral & fish. We still want to snorkel while in the Western Carribbean to see somewhere different, so can you recommend one particular spot or tour - Grand Cayman, Cozumel? Cheers, Bev :D
Rare Kinkacruiser Posted October 21, 2011 #4 Share Posted October 21, 2011 I've heard this as well, though as a Queenslander still have to experience this. Tahaa (near Raiatea) is my best ever experience so far.

Cheers, Bev :D In Grand Cayman, you can snorkel from shore a short walking distance from the tender area, at Eden Rock. Come out of the port area, turn right, keep the water on your right, and keep walking to Eden Rock. They rent gear if you need to, and have chairs to rent also. If you have your own gear, you're good to go:D
