Megalon Posted October 23, 2011 #26 Share Posted October 23, 2011 I've never stayed for a cruise, but I vacation regularly for long weekends in New Orleans and always use Hotwire. I book hotels in the "Downtown" area or on Canal St. south of Bourbon and have always done well. If you stay in that area, it is a short walk to the Quarter and the waterfront/casino area and is a short cab ride to the pier. As said before, if the line is long at Acme, hop across the street to Felix's. People seem to crave the barbecued oysters at Dragos'/Riverside Hilton. I've never had them, but the reviews for them are incredible. Pricey, though. A drink at Pat O'Brien's is worth it, also. Which nights in March? With as many Hotwire users as are responding to your thread, someone could probably figure out which exact hotels are available for the price. Betterbidding.com is the best source for doing that. Megalon Posted October 25, 2011 #30 Share Posted October 25, 2011 You're welcome. I've walked over from the Marriott (basically across Canal Street from the JW) to the edge of Riverwalk to look at Triumph when it was loading on a Saturday. New Orleans is great, but I was still jealous of those about to depart!
Lynda59 Posted November 2, 2011 #31 Share Posted November 2, 2011 The Men's Final Four is the last week of March: 3/31 - 4/2/12. Rates will be much higher than usual with usually a 2 or 3 night minimum.
SpoonerCruizer Posted November 7, 2011 #32 Share Posted November 7, 2011 Many of the hotels are sold out, and if they aren't the rates are very high. Have heard there are 2 major events going on during that weekend. Good luck. We booked the Pelham which is close to the cruise terminal and FQ

groom66 Posted November 15, 2011 #34 Share Posted November 15, 2011 we have been satisfied with the Prince Conti Hotel in the FQ. If you are there Mon - Fri, consider making reservations for lunch at Commander's Palace (martinis for 75 cents, with an entree.) A wonderful place to experience gourmet Creole food!
