cruiseaholic777 Posted October 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2011 We would like to spend the day at the beach in Haiti. Can anyone tell me a nice beach to go to? I am trying not to spend to much on this excursion. We have 4 stops and i am paying for five of us, so under 75$ each would be ok. Thank you ;)
PennyAgain Posted October 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2011 Labadee is a fine beach area with no additional charge from your cruise ship to use the beach. You won't be leaving the protected area to take tours into Haiti itself. There are some extra price activities, but if you don't want to spend any money, you can enjoy Labadee without spending money other than for a fancy drink or a beer from the bars. cb at sea Posted October 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2011 The entire place IS a beach...take your pick! It's all walkable, so wander about until you fine the perfect spot to suit you. Plenty of sun and shade...hammocks in the trees...it's a great day and no need at all to spend any money on "excursions"...lunch is on the beach and part of your day! There are loungers...if they aren't where you want them, there are "beach boys" who will move them for you. (A small tip is sort of expected...$5-8 for the 5 of you will do nicely). Marie51 Posted October 10, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2011 Thank you for the quick replies. ;) You don't really have to spend a cent there unless you want to. You can take some cash if you want to buy souveniers from the local vendors and charge alcohol to your card. Also some areas are rocky so ask around for the sandy beach area. I believe there are maps of Labadee on the ship so you can check out all the areas.
FINTUCKYFARMS Posted October 10, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2011 I don't think that there are any excursions offered there except for water craft in the cove and some sort of bounce house thing that is on the water for the kids. There is a "farmers market" in the center where there is some really cool handmand items however the craftsmen are VERY agressive in trying to sell their items. Lunch is served in two locatons and is buffet style. The resort(?) is at a point of the island so you have a cove side and an ocean side. The cove side is more sheltered and has sandy beeches, the ocean side is much more rocky but you can still pick your way thru and walk quite a long way out into the surf. There is plenty of help to move chairs or rent floating matts or snorkel equipment. There is lots of little fishes to watch or chase on both sides. When I was there they were building a new dock so ships would no longer have to tender and it should be done by now. The first and third picture are of the new dock and greeting space that was under construction when we were there in 2009. The second picture is a picture of the cove from the boat and the last picture is a picture of my kids on the cove side but on the left side of the old greeting area. The cove is kind of divided in half from beech and the "excursions".
