What amenities with owner's suite?

Was it rocky being so far forward? I know that the cruise was very smooth for us (midship). Great pictures!

I like foward Penthouses or OS. You get a little rock if the sea is high, but nothing to bother me.

But, I DO NOT get sea sick. So I can't say how it could affect you.

This suite is our favorate, just booked 10006 on the Star. Question for all the OS fans, right under the bridge and next to the bathroom porthole window their is what appears to be a screen/monitor of some kind, anyone know what it is?

I believe that may be a CCTV camera for the bridge to see while docking. I always hated docking because you had to try to see everthing from the bridge to avoid damage. To me I could have any one on deck give me info on the radio but as OOD it was my responsability to not bend up Uncle Sams Ship.

I noticed that as well, and thought it might be some kind of air filtration system. If nobody knows, I'll check it out when I board in a few weeks, and let you know after I return. ;)

Tom,

As promised, just returned from the Jewel on Saturday. We had OS 10004. This is a wonderful room in a great location, I think you will enjoy it. We loved the dual balconies especially coming into and out of a port. On the front balcony, we were able to see dolphins swim up to the ship. I think the then swim with the bow, but we could not see that.

I am not good at the picture posting, but here goes.

These are from the entry, living room and dining room.

Thanks for the photos, must be a popular room, we have it booked for March 10. Did you happen to fold out the sofa? Our DD will be using it, just curious how it was for sleeping.

I am curious about this as well. Is a cot better to ask for? Do we need a mattress top thing?

Hi!

Did you tip the butler and concierge? (How much, more or less, for a family of 5?) Did you pay extra for breakfast/lunch at Cagneys? Did you tip staff there too? Do you need to buy the soda card, or can you bring the sodas from the room to the pool / dining room?

Thanks

We stay in the Courtyard Villas (Haven) and we always tip the Concierge $250 for the week. The concierge works their butt off to ensure that we have a great week with all our needs met. Reservations for restaurants, help with on-shore excursion bookings, etc.

As for breakfast and lunch at Cagney's that is free to Courtyard Villa Suite guests, not sure about other suites. We also leave a tip (usually about $5 at breakfast and at lunch, or about $10 a day).

The soda card we found not to be a great idea. We cruised 2 years ago with my parents to Alaska (our treat) and my dad got a soda card. Great concept except he had to constantly carry his re-fillable cup with him which was a pain in the butt.

Hope this helps

I know that some people utilize their services more than others... but they would have to be doing A LOT for me to justify a $250 tip. On the Epic I think we gave between $50 and $75 last time. We were escorted to a couple of shows, and had them switch dinner reservations (which we had made in advance) for a couple of nights. This, however is what they are there to do. I appreciate the attention to our requests - always greeted with a smile. When you look at how many suites (75) are on that ship, and multiply even by $50 per cabin, they make a PRETTY PENNY ($3750) extra each/every week... $16,250/mo...!

Hi All,

Yes this is a great room. The thing outside the bathroom is a camera which looks down the side of the ship to watch for jumpers. It feels weird like they are looking at you and my DH would close the blind when he showered, but I figured if they wanted to look they could :)

I asked about the camera while on the bridge tour and actually saw the view from it. They can see the far end of your side balcony. He told me they could turn it, but do not as they respect our privacy. We never did figure out what the screen thing was. I tried to zoom in on it, but the pictures didn't come out.

We did buy soda cards so we could get sodas where ever we were on the ship. I like Diet Sierra mist and this was not available in the suite so I would get some in the cups they gave us to bring to the room. You could bring the cans to the pool or take a glass with you, but we did not. We drank enough outside the cabin to probably pay for one card, but not two. So we spent a bit more than needed.

We did not fold out the sofa, but the room steward told me that kids find it comfortable. It felt firm to sit on so I would think it would be good for sleeping. There is plenty of room if you wanted a cot, but the sofa is fairly new as they swapped them out about 6 months ago (this is what we were told)

Tipping is such a personal situation , but I will share what we did as there really is no guidance for suite tipping and we used some of the info we found here on CC to help us have a starting point. The only other reference we had was my SIL who tipped her butler (who she said was amazing) 450 each week for a back to back ($900 seemed too high to me so we used the CC info).

MDR server - we had the same server several nights and had asked him to not wait too long between courses. We tipped him $10 each of the 3 nights we had him

Concierge - he made 4 dinner reservations for us in the MDR, checked on us one time in the MDR, had me made my own spa reservations, arranged the bridge tour and always greeted me when he saw me. - we tipped him $60

Butler - we had seen 10/day/person as a guide and go up or down from there. We tipped $30 when he brought us dinner from Cagneys, then tipped $160 at the end of the week. I had some challenges with him as we had budgeted more.

Room Steward - We gave him extra above the DSC.

Tom, we will put the pics on a site. I am on a business trip this week so it will probably be closer to the weekend. I did put a review of the rest of the cruise on the NCL site. All in all, a great week and a great cruise to re-energize me which is what I had planned for.

We've never had to carry the cup around with us. We just order a soda and show our ship card with the sticker/printed info on it.

y'all will love that suite Tom ---we had the Picasso suite on the STar which is the same layout.

Esp liked having 2 bathrooms -- the powder room is to the left as you enter.

Must have had 5 phones lol.

Enjoy !

Thanks -- and you enjoy the EPIC!!!

Great photos, Mary! Thanks so much for sharing them. It'll be my turn in two weeks, and I am sooooo ready to go!

I have a quick question. Were there Elemis facial products in the bath? Specifically I'm looking to find out if there was cleanser, and eye jel/creme. The less I have to pack, the better!

Also, thanks for the info about the binoculars being broken. I'll be bringing my own for sure. ;)

My first guess would be a condensing unit for an Air Conditioner. Maybe with all the heat rejection from the monitors, etc they need supplementary cooling?
