Oceania - cost of cruise

My husband were cancelled on a 2012 cruise on RCI (Vision of the SEas) and I am nor scrambling for another trip. At first glance, the prices for Oceania are out of our budget but saw a 2-fer promotion and free air fare. On their website what is the cost and is that per person? Are excursions included in the cruise at no additional charge? Thanks.

O always offers 2-1 fares and free air. Fares are per person. No one that I know ever pays anything but those fares. O tends to offer the best prices when cruises are announced, they seldom if ever offer last-minute "cheap" fares. No, excursions are not included. The ships are small in comparison to RCI, which is one of the reasons they are pricier but not the only one - they do offer a wonderful product. If you are looking for wonderful entertainment, lots of activities, formal dining, smoking in your cabin/balcony, etc., you won't find it on O. On the other hand, great food, no extra cost specialty restaurants, clean and smokefree atmosphere, country casual dress code, open dining, and port intensive cruises, you will love it. Also a plus, very few children.

It should be noted that you have an option of arranging your own air, in which case you would get a credit and pay less than the stated fare. The cost reduction is comparable in most cases to what your own airfare costs, sometimes less and sometimes more. It does allow you to pick your own flights. If you let Oceania pick your flight and want to change it there is a deviation fee of between $100 and $125 per person.

Also, depending on who your travel agent is you may get prepaid gratuities and a shipboard credit.

You haven't given a clue as to what kind of cruise you are looking for, time of year, area of the world, your location, etc.

We love being on the water, including small Atlantic fishing boats for multi-night whale watches to Canadian Grand Mannan Island, and didn't know if we would like a cruise. We opted for a transAtlantic on Celebrity's Constellation in an ocean view cabin. Lots of sea days from FL, ending up in western Europe in May. We had a good time on the Constellation (it was bigger than we thought we would like), and plan on having a good time on the smaller Regatta.

Generally the repositioning cruises are your best per diem buy. Some people like a port intensive schedule, others like us, want to relax and be waited on! I know a teacher in FL, that takes a Caribbean cruise from FL every year. He rarely gets off the ship at the islands, and just wants to decompress from intensive teaching and high school teen chaos, on a balcony. He rarely leaves his cabin and loves being pampered. Plus he has to pay a single supplement. He calls these cruises his cruise to sanity!

We decided to invest more money on an upcoming Oceania cruise (Australia & NZ) that has a nice mix (for us) of ports and sea days. Instead of just looking at the ocean, this cruise will be going into geographically scenic areas, and we decided on a cabin with a balcony. With airfare rates on the rise & uncertain, from our location in the eastern US, we decided having things in one package, was worth it. We just got a notice from our TA that our complicated air schedule has changed again. We are happy to let her deal with it!

Your circumstances, experiences, preferences and limitations may be different from ours. Everyone has their own ball of wax to put together! Best wishes! And hope you can get on a cruise which is good for you.
