We had a fabulous comedian on our Conquest cruise~Mutzie! He was hysterical, had us in tears, went to all of his shows! Main shows were the same since '06 (I think~if not then at least since '09) but the singers were different so it made for a good show still~

This was our 16th cruise with carnival and never had a complait, but who changed the menu. I want my shrimp cocktail back!!! Food was just ok I think they really want you to go to the steakhouse. The entertainment was the worst we have ever seen. The comedians were just not funny. One even had to pull out his notes to try and find something funny. The ship is very decorated but not the worst.(Destiny) The 8 days was very relaxing and beautiful weather. Not giving up on carnival booked two more for next year The casino staff was great very friendly and keep us coming back (win or lose) When did love and marriage show become the main show at night!! Come on carnival wake up before its too late

this confirms what i have been reading lately.

when we have visited the stakehouse, it was always empty. we've enjoyed it, but would prefer to eat in the main dining room and get served the good food there. the quality have been going down and down. i won't even order beef there any longer, except the prime rib.

i'm hoping this 2.0 was launched to just mark that they finally hit the bottom of the barrel, and the complaints have started hitting their bottom line. the cutting back on areas of entertainment just crossed the line, in my book.

In my opinion, you can charge the poor entertainment choices, and venues directly to the worst C.D. in the entire Carnival fleet, who happens to be aboard "Miracle". Malcolm makes terrible choices, and does whatever is the easiest for him when it comes to entertainment aboard that ship. (Damn the passengers,,,if it involves time, and work for him you won't see it aboard that ship.) When I asked Malcolm about a couple of activities that I noticed were missing, he told me that they were "just too much work for him", and I wouldn't be seeing those shows aboard the "Miracle". What a shame,,,,"Miracle" used to be my favorite ship in the entire Carnival fleet!

"SKY"

Yes, I got the impression that Malcolm was lazy. When we were on the Miracle last fall at this time of year, most days had only a couple of activities as he was too sorry to do the work to plan more. To add to the general lack of activities and excitement, his assistant, "Sparkle" or something, like that was a total ditz. The social hosts were too busy being social with each other to even speak to a mere passenger.

I did get a comment card and I did tell them what I thought.

I have had a worse cruiser director, but we was a fill in and was on his last cruise of that contract. He was the first person off the ship when we hit port - I saw him leaving!

I am more referring to the 2-3 FREE cruises I have taken on Celebrity thanks to their "Blue Chip Club", and the $1,200.. $2,000... and $3,000 OFF my cruise fare on our last 3 booked NCL cruises thanks to booking through NCL's "Casinos at Sea" department. Additionally, on the last night of our FIRST, and most recent, NCL cruise they have taken $1,000 and $800 (respectively) off of our onboard charge account.

On all 3 lines, free drinks are a given. No drinks, no play -- real simple! Though I only drink in the evening, and then it's not like I drink "a lot".

On all 3 lines they have offered to cover trips to the spa, specialty dinners, sent wine to our cabin, etc...

But it's the free cruises and thousands off upon re-booking that really get my attention.

Carnival plays the game, just at a lower level.

I'm looking forward to my milestone cruise on Carnival in March. Then I will likely start branching out, and casino perks are a big deal for me. So I'll will look at NCL.......but with trepidation.......I've just heard so much bad comparison and I'm not interested in sailing on the big box........

Just close you eyes to get inside the BIG BOX! I can assure you that when the first photos started coming out of the Epic, I said (and indeed posted several times on CC) that I would never sail that "ugly" ship. Fortunately another Milestone CC'er forced me to look beyond the exterior. After some research, my tune had changed. Then, after a week onboard, I could not wait to return... it was that good!

ONE MONTH FROM TODAY we return!!

BTW - the Epic has the largest casino at sea... ;)

I am not a Malcolm fan but in all fairness last month on Miracle (and his last cruise before vacation) they had more trivia than I have ever seen before and he did do his silent skit.

BTW Malcolm was one of the first off the ship when we docked.

Several years ago we sailed with Mark Hawkins as the CD a couple of times. What impressed me with him was that he seemed to make a point to be downstairs on debarkation morning thanking people for sailing and wishing them a safe trip home. Following that I never saw it occur - until our cruise this April on the Inspiration, though that was Sixthman's "VH1 Best Cruise Ever", and it was Sixthman's CEO down there saying goodbye to everyone.

Many CD's seem to, almost, hide!

Tom,

In order to get those FREE perks how much do you have to spend? I'm not trying to be evasive but is it like over $500 in casino? $1000 in casino? $2000 in casino? Those perks sound good but what do you have to do to get them?

Have noticed you almost never see the CD the last morning. Delegates to his social hosts and does whatever in his cabin.

It's not really how much I had to spend, but how much I had to put at risk. They will look at your average bet, hours played, and the house advantage on that particular game to calculate your theoretical loss.

In my case it involved black chip ($100) level betting at blackjack - often for 2-3 hours/day. That kind of play can give substantial swings (win/loss). I can report with a smile that over the last few months (which involved a couple of Vegas trips and 3 cruises) I am basically at break even -- though it's been a roller coaster ride!!

Having never sailed with anyone but Carnival, I'm rather scared to try another line. I will need to do a lot of research here on CC to know "how" to cruise with anyone else.

I've heard that on some lines you have to make reservations in advance to get into certain dining rooms that are just regular MDR type places.

It will be at least late next year or maybe 2013 before I have to choose. It really depends on Carnivals new loyalty program. I'm perfectly content with Carnival, but thought that after my milestone I might try to start building some loyalty points with someone else.

Okay that sounds pretty good actually. I know my mother would loooooove this. She actually wins enough to for it to equate a part-time job or unfortunately enough for a full-time job for many. LOL It's been a running joke in the family.

For these casino clubs is a passenger auto enrolled or do i need to just head to the casino cage at the beginning to sign up?

HERE is a review of the Epic (from the perspective of a first time NCL cruiser) by our good friend Don/DGP1111. It's the best place to start... trust me!

It varies on different lines. I would just make the inquiry prior to playing any table games. On NCL you typically get your card first.. Carnival does not have a card -- but they'll have your number, at least with green chip+ level of play (again.. just ask to be rated).

We have sailed 18 cruises on Carnival, but our last cruise was on the NCL Spirit out of New Orleans. When we were getting off the ship, the crew and staff were lined up telling us how much THEY enjoyed us sailing with them. Also after one of the shows they were lined up as we exited thanking us for sailing with them. Never seen this on CCL. I'm a big CCL fan, but I did see a difference when we sailed the NCL Spirit.

Felipe Couto was our CD on Miracle. He hosted the main shows but his Asst CD did a lot of the other activities. When we debarked yesterday Felipe was actually in the Atrium saying goodbye to folks.

To be fair, CDs don't affect my cruising so I rarely pay attention to them. So YMMV.

I sail on the Miracle in 6 days. So when I saw the title of this thread I had to read it. But the very 1st post by the OP was well, whiny.

No shrimp cocktail? Go buy a bag at Aldis for $4.99 and you can have a cocktail each night for some time.

Then reading others posts:

Don't like the new menu, well everything changes, I bet you didn't go hungry. And no food is as bad as it was for us on HAL.

Don't like the comedians, oh well. Don't go, get up and walk out. You didn't pay any extra for it.

Don't like the CD, I can't tell you the name of any of the CD's we have had. They don't matter to me, they don't make my cruise good or bad.

Our cruise will be what we make of it. Will everything be 100%? Nope, don't expect it to be. But how bad can it possibly be?

I don't know, I get confused by complainers. We all make our own choices. Don't sail on Carnival. Choose Costa or Celebrity...I mean you aren't' paying Cadillac prices when you sail on Carnival. We are sailing particularly for that reason this trip. DD is sailing with us and can only afford so much. So instead of Princess(my preference) we chose the Miracle ship.

We will get fed. We will be entertained. And most important, we will be on VACATION.

That is 100% NOT what I mean. Everyone can post what they want, likes or dislikes.

BUT the title of the thread makes it appear to be way worse than no shrimp cocktail.

Worn carpets, hard beds, TV's didn't work. Plumbing didn't work, dirty, smells, etc.

So that is what I meant.

I do not want any argument. All I am saying is, you get what you pay for. If you pay for 1st class, you should get 1st class. If you pay coach, expect coach.

And I have read so much on the silly shrimp, it is just silly so many are so focused on them.

so someone sailing in a suite should be have a great cabin, superior food, and have a superior experience than someone who books an inside room on the lowest deck?
