Diamond Head Hike Improved

I just returned from Honolulu.

 

The State of Hawaii opened a new section of the Diamond Head Summit Trail last week. Specifically, they added a new exit stairwell to alleviate congestion at choke points, and a path that will lead you back down to the tunnel. An outlook was also added.

Note that for the next 2 months, the new stairwell will be used to accend and decend from the summit while they do additional work up top to widen a ledge. Once completed (around mid-December 2011), the new stairwell will be for decent only.

Yes thanks. I printed the info out. We are going in 4 weeks. I think we will also do it our first day there because of the early rising aspect. Cruise critic has been wonderful for all the insider Hawaii info.
