Softball20 Posted October 29, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2011 I just wanted to pass along a tip. We just completed a fabulous Med cruise earlier this week, and one of our stops was Monte Carlo. We knew that "proper" ID was required to get into the Grand Casino, and I had read several threads here that a photo copy of a passport was acceptable. It is not. When we got to the counter to pay our entrance fee, there was a sign clearly saying that passport photocopies were not acceptable, and the cashier confirmed that for us. Luckily, drivers licenses do work and we both had ours with us.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 30, 2011 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2011 We had the same experience. An original was required rather than a copy. I'm glad it worked out well for you because they accepted your drivers license. Keith
cleobella Posted October 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2011 We took our passports and were excited about going to the famous casino in Monte Carlo. However, it was a bit of a let down. They only let you into the first 2 rooms, which were small rooms-one with a few tables and one with a few slots. Not quite what we expected for a 10 euro pp cover charge. Agreed that its absolutely disappointing but for some, like my husband, he couldn't be in Monte Carlo and not go.
Island wannabe Posted November 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted November 12, 2011 We've chosen our Med cruise itin next year specifically because of the stop in Monte Carlo. DH is a massive James Bond fan so visiting the Grand Casino is a must. Do you know if you can take photos in the casino? Also can you take in a betting "cheat sheet" for blackjack like you can in Vegas?
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 12, 2011 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2011 Island wannabe, when you visit the Casino be sure to take your passports as you will need them to get in. No photography is allowed inside the casino and you must check your camera before you can enter. Keith
Softball20 Posted November 12, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted November 12, 2011 Yep, there is a room where you check bags, cameras, etc. I agree with one of the above posts, it is a bit of a let down. Not at all what we expected. We can say we've been there, and we really enjoyed Monte Carlo, The building itself is beautiful, but the casino wasn't the highlight. We did do lunch at the Cafe de Paris, which was very good - pricey, but very good.
Rare Keith1010 Posted November 12, 2011 #8 Share Posted November 12, 2011 It's a memory and remember you can take lots of photos outside the casino. It's a good place to also people watch both inside the casino and outside. Enjoy! Keith
