A poll on smoking

Well said! Thank you! And congrats on quitting!:) I am trying to quit, but no success yet. However, I am a considerate smoker...I only smoke where I am allowed and even if I am just walking around outside, I try not to smoke right next to people. I think that's what annoys the smokers so much...if we are in our own section, away from the non-smoking section (especially when outside), why is it a problem???? I just don't get it:rolleyes:

 

Doesn't matter...you can only vote once, regardless. So over 500 people have voted it doesn't bother them and much less have voted that it does. Easy.

nope...it sways some posters..and that is what is skewing the responses...it is not true that even though it appears that more are in favor of smoking.....the reality is that some posters are being swayed to think that...well, maybe it bothers me..or maybe it doesn't bother me at all.....

regardless...with a hot topic such as smoking...the only fair and unbiased way to take a poll would be to have only 2 choices...yes or no...

 

but whoever started the poll knew that and made sure that they gave the respondents more than the 2 simple appropriate choices...in order to sway the results in favor of smoking.....

 

personally, it really doesn't matter any more anyway because the trend is toward less smoking areas...and I don't see that changing in the near future.

A am a non-smoker. I have never smoked and yet I have a lung disease that is considered terminal. Any smoke is bad for me and makes my chest hurt. Therefore, I avoid it. I do not go into the smoking areas. If a smoker is in an area designated "smoking", then I leave. For instance, I rarely go in the casino. If a smoker is in a non-smoking area, then I will say something to them. As for my balcony, I have a right to a smoke free environment such as my neighbor has a right to smoke. If it bothers me I will talk to my neighbor like an adult and ask if we can work something out so that both of us can enjoy our vacation. If everyone acted like adults in this situation things would not be so argumentative, I think!

Sorry to hear.. my aunt is going thru stage 4 lung cancer right now never smoked a day in her life.. (she has the most common lung cancer for non smoking women)..

 

I agree you have the right to a smoke free environment.. but please be aware that the balconies are not a smoke free environment.. they are allotted as a place to smoke... I hope you have good neighbours that understand if you ask them .. but realize that they are smoking in a designated place...and if they refuse it is not their fault.. it is what Carnival has allotted to them as smoking areas since taking away pretty much every where else outside

I have never had a smoker be rude to me about it regarding the balconies. I explain my situation and usually we work out something where we can both enjoy our balconies.

if the smoking policy is what it was on the Inspiration last week than I am in favour of banning it on Lido. Nobody cared where they smoked, nor did I see signs saying it wasn't allowed, If we wanted to sit anywhere we had to put up with it....drove me nuts!

Smokers have to smoke some where and I'd rather it not be on the cabin balconies.

I would rather it be in their house, in a closet. :D Did I say that? Talk about starting a war between the smokers and anti-smokers...

 

Don't anyone get any ideas about banning my drinking in certain areas of the ship now...I stay out of Camp Carnival with my Bud Lite voluntarily... :)

I'm not a full time smoker, I just enjoy the occasional cigar. I really wish that CCL had not eliminated the dedicated cigar lounges on some of the ships.

We just returned on the Liberty. It was nice not having to smell smoke everywhere. We paid for balcony rooms and it was very annoying to have to keep running back into the room to avoid the smoke. It would have been nice to be able to sit on the balcony more. I guess we had some chain smokers around us. It was bad.

 

The 5th level was pretty smoky near the casino. In the lounge where the comedy shows and art auctions were was very smoky. No one was smoking in the room, so I don't know why. It was almost intolerable. My kids kept complaining about it.

We are going on our first cruise in May. How do I find a map of the areas that are designated smoking? I really want to avoid them. Nothing is listed on the deck plans. If smoking is allowed on one side does that mean the entire half of the ship? If my kids are swimming in the pool will there be lots of smoke coming from one side or do smokers have to stay back from the pool? I don't gamble and will just avoid the other smoking areas but I am worried about the outdoor areas and how to get around them. Kinda wish we hadn't booked the balcony now too.

Has anyone thought that the more areas that are resticted against smoking that more smoke is going to be concentrated in the areas that are still designated smoking? I am a smoker, but I try to be very considerate to those around me. But if I am in a designated smoking area then I expect the same consideration be given to me. JMO

I hope they eliminate smoking altogether. No reason people's health should be put at risk or their enjoyment of a cruise compromised just because a minority of cruisers are addicted to a dangerous habit. It is not allowed in so many places now because of the impact of second hand smoke on others. Denial and threats by smokers do not change the facts about smoking. Carnival needs to grow up and protect it's customers health and lower the risk of ship fires too!

Carnival has given in to the non smokers and limited the areas greatly.. now there is nothing but complaints about too much smoke in those certain areas in doors...

 

Carnival had a great plan with one side smoking one not... but again non smokers complained on the one ship for the trial and are still complaining... you won't win.. if you do there will not be a cruise industry sorry to say:rolleyes:

 

It has nothing to do with health issues of passengers.. because you can not get lung cancer from cigarette smoke alone.. and especially for only being exposed to it for minutes if not seconds at a time outside... I did not post this for a back and forth from every one about YES you can... cause it is NO you can't.. read up...

As a cancer survivor I avoid cigarettes and smoking areas. Glad that Carnival will be non-smoking cabins but wish balconies were also. I will avoid all the other areas where smoking occurs.

I just got off the Glory. I am a smoker and stayed to my side of the ship. The smoking is allowed on one side of the lido, I guess you could smoke near the pool on that side but I didn't see anyone smoking to close to the pool.

Smoking is also allowed in the white heat bar and the blue bar and part of the casino. I can understand the smoke in the casino would travel to the nonsmoking area in the casino but I did not see anyone smoking in the nonsmoking area.

I have never had a balcony but thought about getting one on my next cruise. I know they balconies are close but with the ship moving and the wind blowing I really didn't think that my smoke would bother someone on the other side. But I will not get a balcony now that I know it does bother some people. I am never in my room anyways.

As far as making the ships nonsmoking I don't think it will happen. Carnival tried it once (paradise 2003?) and it failed. I am not sure but I don't think any cruise line is smoke free.

I am a former smoker. I don't care to be around those smoking these days BUT.... I think the place Carnival has for smokers to smoke (balconies, the one side of the ship) is adequate. I never smoked in my cabin, but I, too, don't see the problem with smoking out on the balcony on a moving ship....even as a non-smoker now.

I've been vaping for over a year now. Great flavors, very inexpensive.:) No need for cigs. Vap in airports, restaurants, everywhere on land. Never a problem. Even "stealth" vaped on an airplane once. On ships I do use the smoking areas and the Lido deck sometimes. Those that notice know what I'm doing and I have never had one single complaint. Just have to be discreet. Don't throw it in someone's face . . . eventually you'll run across that world-eco-saving-health freak do-gooder who'll make trouble for yah.:rolleyes:

That old saying 'give them an inch, they take a mile' comes to thought. Now they think they are the one and only.

 

As for those of you who complain about smoke on a balcony on a moving ship with a divider between you - you're wacked!!!! Get a life and find something more plausible to complain about. (PS - I don't smoke and have not had smoke in open air ever bother me.)
