You People Are Strange!

It's very odd...for months and months everyone talked, argued and speculated about the future of SS Norway and what a shame it would be to lose her from the NCL fleet or North American market.

Now that NCL has announced their intent to "can" her, everyone's just like "Oh. Yeah. That stinks. Oh well."

Am I the only person confused? :-)

Gary-Maybe I am missing the point, however what is there left to talk about? I never had the joy and privilege of sailing on the Norway and based on what I have read it's my loss. It is obvious She had a large and loyal following, and every one was quite vociferous in making their feelings known when Her fate was announced. Maybe it is now time to let Her rest in peace, and always be fondly remembered by those who sailed her?

There isn't much to talk about since we won't be able to book cruises on her anymore......

I'm glad I had the opportunity to sail on her, and yes all things come to an end.

We must go on!

Now that we do know and there is no more uncertainty, what do you expect us all to say? We've had several threads full of final wails and gnashing of teeth. But the decision's gone "against" us and what we'd like, and we've got to move on.

Oh, don't take the message the wrong way at all...I wasn't criticizing anyone. I was just a little surprised that people chatted so frequently about it for the near year that she was out of service, yet when it was announced she wouldn't return people just kind of went on their merry way.

I was just a little shocked not to see another 75 post thread about the ship :-)

I personally never had the pleasure of sailing on SS Norway. I really wanted to and was booked for the 5/25/03 sailing...unfortunately, I did not learn of the boiler explosion until I hit the police roadblocks in Miami...didn't make for too much of a fun travel day, and some nasty phone calls to NCL (after being told it was a 'small fire' by customer service) were quickly calmed when someone on the line passed along the word "explosion" and "killed crewmembers."

It was a really horrible accident, and I am saddened to see her not return to service.

Perhaps SS United States will return to service in the future, as NCL promised when they purchased her, but in my cynical ways I believe it was more a publicity stunt. From my understanding, the remains of SS United States consist of a gutted vessel that would cost quite a pretty penny to turn into a modern day luxury liner...but we can still dream

BTW -- the header was just an attention getter...don't take it the wrong way.

Gary,
It seemed to me that there were quite a few "memorial" type threads after the decision was made. Lots of goodbys and memories shared. I guess everybody who wanted to say goodbye did so. . I expect there'll be more talk once we see what is to become of her. I visited the Queen Mary in Long Beach and thought the tasteful hotel/museum, convention attraction venue was a nice way to keep her "alive". Hopefully something similar is in the works for the Norway!

The Queen Mary is a fantastic example of a ship that met a more "favorable" fate. While it is sometimes disappointing that she is not more well maintained by her owners, the ship is still in superb condition...and, most important of all -- the ship still exists :-)

hi gary,
i for one will mourn the loss of Norway for quite a while and will always have my fond memories of my 3 cruises aboard her.
One of the things im thankful for now is that i attended an art auction on her in Dec. 2002 and purchased a beautiful print of her by maritime artist James Flood which proudly hangs in my living room. There is a special place in all our hearts for her.

"live long and prosper...so you may cruise!"

A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work.

The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good.

Platinum with RCI, a couple cruises with NCL and 1 with CCL

Clock remove but cruise in Dec

Fellas,

The SS NORWAY is up for sale, see here.

She is listed at $USD25 million.

I know this is remote, but you vever know, she could still be used as a cruise ship by some millionaire enthusiast who is willing to repair her.

Cheers
