New to HAL - Bermuda w/ kids and other ??'s

Hi all -

Seriously considering the HAL Veendam to Bermuda this summer, before they discontinue this route.

1) Traveling w/ kids - does HAL skew older? Will there be summer vacation kids? How is the kids club?

2) Do they ever discount this route? or run specials (kids half off, etc)? Little bit of sticker shock, lol.

3) Historically, where has HAL re-routed in case of hurricanes?

4) Is there any any time dining option? And you can opt out of formal nights w/ buffet or room service, like other lines, correct?

TIA for your help!

Andrea

We just took our grand kids with us in Oct. they are 5&8. They loved club Hal.

If you go during the summer months, there will be plenty of younger families on board.

We booked with a 3rd &4th passenger free promotion, so it cost $110 for each of them for port charges and taxes. You also have to pay the service fee of 12 a day for children. The only problem we had is that are no balcony rooms outside of full suites that accommodate more than three people. We had an ocean view room on deck 5. It was a little crowded, but for the amount of time we spent in the room, we survived.

If you don't want to do formal night, you can eat in the lido or have room service. We had traditional early seating. I like having the same servers every night. They got to know the kids and really catered to them. There is an anytime dining option available but you have to choose which one you want. You cannot flip between fixed and anytime dining.
