Shoes for Lamanai Tour

We went to Lamani this past April with Island Marketing & we both wore sneakers as you will be walking in & out of a boat, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing up dirt hills, climbing on ruins going up to the top etc. And you might even get some rain ?

The boat ride there is as much fun & as interesting as the ruins were, to us.

Enjoy Belize.

I thought perhaps since I started this thread, I would answer my own question. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. We did, indeed, go on a ship's tour to the Lamanai ruins in Dec. We both wore sneakers but there were lots of other people in Keen-type shoes, also. As others have said, either would be appropriate, it just depends on which you feel would be the most comfortable and which would give the most stability. I would definitely vote for closed-toe shoes (lots of exposed tree roots and rocks on the trails) but one gal in our group had on flip-flops (she didn't climb the ruins). We thoroughly enjoyed our day. Ponchos came in handy on the boat ride back as we ran into heavy rain. There was a roof on the boat but open sides and high speeds made some kind of rain gear a necessity. For what it's worth, our guide wore sneakers.
