How long before sail date do reservations "close"?

Every time I've cruised I've gone online to see what the availability of suites is (hoping for an upgrade, surprise surprise) and I know there's a day after which no site will access reservations for a sailing. I never commit it to memory I just know it happens. And, yes, they're on sailings that are NOT sold out, they just stop releasing the info to TA's... and I assume you can only book with them directly... if at all. But is that a week before? 5 days before? Some genius on here must know.

I'm not a genuis but I know that due to the Homeland Security Act, all ship manifests are closed 72 hours prior to sailing. So your answer is 3 days.

Aside from the mandatory closing - some popular routes in high season close many months earlier.

My parents booked their last cruise (on the Diamond last summer) about a week in advance.

Many close months ahead, because they are out of cabins.
