meow! Posted December 17, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2011 As the economy worsens through the last decade, advertizers have been ever so brilliant in creating attractive deals. For example, airfare from A to B is only $500, and it does not include all taxes, security fees and all sorts of surcharges of $600, more than the airfare itself. Land restaurants, "dishes start at $10", most of them at $20+, then $8 for apertizer, $7 for desert, $20 for a couple of drinks, 15% service (cover) charge and so much for taxes. Good grief! Now cruising, on the Marina/Riviera, there may be less than a handful of inside cabins, but that is what they will quote as "from $xxxx". The normal, basic balconied (and vast majority) cabin would be double that much. And it must be double occupancy, that makes it 4 x. Add on tips and drinks, etc., the occasional excursion, the rough estimate may well be to take the "from" number, multiply by 5 or 6 (depending how you spend), and it will be close to the full cost of your trip, even though airfare is included! That may be an easy estimation formula!

no fuss travel Posted December 17, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2011 They are now going after the airlines in Canada saying that they must now disclose the full price, taxes, fuel surcharge, etc when advertising. Let's see if it actually happens.
wripro Posted December 17, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2011 Not sure what the point is here. Cruise lines have always marketed a tad deceptively. Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that 241 is a joke.
capecodder2 Posted December 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 18, 2011 most ads for anything are "a tad deceptive" - there is no point to this thread.
