RCI Allure on Feb. Weather and Packing?

Recommended Posts

Hello! my name is Ignacia, im going on the Allure of the seas, en feb 2012 (Anyone else?)...Western caribbean 7 days, labadee, falmouth and cozumel. I have a few questions about what to pack.

I'm a 19 year old girl...

I read some comments about the changing weather. Have anyone else traveled on feb to the caribbean? should I take precautions?

About what to pack, im leaving on 10 feb from Chile, staying one night on ft lauderdale and 5 days afterwards on miami. I was planning on bringing only shorts and tshirts, some converse, flipflops and swimsuits. Any tips for the ports? i like to walk a lot, and swim so should i bring water shoes??should I bring 1 or 2 pairs of shoes?? Should i bring a rain coat? To windy for dresses? ahahahah. Also i read that on RCI shorts are not allowed on the dinning room, true?

About shampoo, should i bring my own or the ship one is good enough? I have a long hair so most of the hotel bottles are not enough for me.

Any other thing that i should bring? Ahh also, i enjoy books and chilling more than partyng or clubing or whatever. Any tips on quiet places to read and watching the ocean? i sometimes find that on big cruises you sometime forget you are sailing...a secret spot maybe?:D. Is there a library where i can get books or should i bring my own?

A lot of questions...sorry for my bad english i speak spanish. Thank you very much in advantage for answering these =)

Ola, Ignacia! We sailed on Allure last February, a year ago.

The weather was quite mild. I would take at least a sweater or a shawl or light jacket to cover up if it gets chilly.

You may want to bring your own shampoo because Royal has changed its policy about shampoos and conditioners and you have to request it (unless you are in a suite.)

The weather is unpredictable in South Florida in February. We usually have three or four days of comfortable or warm weather followed by three or four days of chilly weather. The cold snaps come in waves, so it is very hard to know what you will encounter.

Allure has a cozy library and also sells paperback books in the shop. I did not care for the selection of paperback books for sale. The library might have a better choice. I'm not sure there are any books in Spanish available.

A good place to read quietly might be in the solarium area. Some of the upper deck area and sports deck have so much music playing that it is hard to read, as it is at the pool when the calypso band plays. Walk around the top decks. There are lots of deck chairs in unusual quieter and shady places.

My neice used to sit in either the Boleros lounge or in the Campagne lounge on the Prominade deck during the day to read. At night, that would

be nearly impossible.

You can wear shorts in the dining room for breakfast and lunch, but at night you are asked not to wear shorts. Slacks or a skirt or dress are all fine. If you don't want to dress up, you can eat in the Windjammer at night or at the pizza place, Johnny Rockets, the Mexican Cantina, the Prominade Cafe and so on. These are fun places to eat.

Su ingles es excelente. I hope you have a wonderful vacation and a fabulous cruise on Allure.

In port, people will be wearing shorts or capris and a top along with either sandals or tennis shoes. During the day, most will be in bathing suits and cover ups, while others will opt for shorts and t-shirts.

At night, in the main dining room, there will be two dress up nights where ladies will wear cocktail dresses or evening slacks and tops in dressy fabrics. The other nights, slacks/capris and tops or sundresses is what women wear. No shorts in the main dining room at night.

Just a question for you. Are you traveling by yourself or with family? The reason I ask is, you must be 21 to cruise on Royal Caribbean without parents or someone who's 21 or older. I don't want you to arrive at the port and be denied boarding, and lose your money.

As for partying, you will be allowed in the disco and casino, but you won't be allowed alcohol, as the drinking age is 21.

The weather will be warmer once you leave Florida. You can expect temperatures in the 80's, which is very warm and comfortable. I really don't think you'll need a coat.

I live in South Florida. Most of the time, the temperature is in the 70's or low 80's during the day. But, we do have cold snaps that could last three or four days with highs in the low 60's or 50's. Winter is our dry season. That does not mean that we get no rain, but most days are sunny

As for "secret" spots for quiet time on the Allure during the day, I suggest deck 17 (rear elevators) where there is the Pinnacle Lounge, the chapel, and Viking Crown lounge, all of which are quiet except when they have special events. Also, there are public balconies at the rear of decks 11, 12, and 14 on both sides (at the end of the halls where the cabins are). They have lounge chairs and regular chairs and very few people most of the time. They overlook the Aqua Theater and the ocean; so there might be some noise coming up from the Boardwalk.

Be sure to reserve all of your shows as soon as possible on line.

Enjoy!
