Howard Johnson's Plaza De Armas location- no longer HOJO's

So I was all ready to book my favorite hotel in Old San Juan- Howard Johnson's Plaza De Armes location. It is no longer in operation by Howard Johnsons.

 

Has anyone stayed there since the change? Is it even still in operation under a new owner/operator? I'm wondering how it is now? This was such a nice, unique hotel- nothing like a typical chain hotel.

There are some pretty recent reviews of the hotel on Tripadvisor, ratings seem pretty consistent with what it received when it was a Howard Johnsons.

I'm noticing more franchise hotels in the Caribbean going non- branded. Reasons are varied and complicated. The internet may br a,game changer for many hotels, and that's partially due to forums, IMO.
