CAS Comp Clarification

So I learned something today, a small precision, which I thought was worth sharing.

I was speaking with the Director of the CAS call centre, Karen.

Previously, I had been under the impression that 1 past CAS cruise (with play) would constitute 1 future CAS cruise (comped based on that play).

What Karen said was that is not how it's done at all. They look at your average play, and if it's consistent they'll continue to offer comps.

She has said she does not like having more than 2 forward-booked rezzies at a time, in case someone goes bust, and then she's on the hook for future cruises which may have no/limited play.

Since I've been getting comped for balconies (and often upgrading), I asked what kind of change in my play it would take to get comped for a suite. Her response was that she would typically look for a $25,000 player (dollars-in) on a 7 day to qualify for a future comp suite.

She also shared that they can use either Theoretical to calculate comp qualification, OR they could use losses. They seem to have some discretion.

Just got off the gem traveling with CAS balcony cabin recipients

They gambled a fortune and were disapointed that all of their charges against their room weren't comped

I know it sounds ridiculous but the amount of money they gambled they should have received at least a free massage or total spa package

This was not there first time at the rodeo and mentioned they think NCL was definitely cutting down on the free perks

I also contacted CAS today to see if I could get a deal on a cruise that I've been looking at....

My husband and I did a CAS cruise last month on the Epic (his invite, me as guest)....we got such a great deal on the cabin that we brought extra money for the casino....we played in the casino for hours everyday...somewhere between 2-5 hrs a day....win/lose/win/lose....I play slots, he plays at the tables...I laid out approx $1500 for the week, but ultimately walked away with most of it...I probably lost about $150 for the 7 days...not bad...my husband is a bigger gambler than me, but ultimately won most of his money back too...

I figured with the amount of time and $$ we spent in the casino, it should be worth something.....right?? Nada.....I was told by the CAS rep....my level of play did not qualify me for any discounts at this time....lol...oh well....

I asked the rep.....what level of play qualifies someone for a discount? She told me that generally they look for table players with bets of $100 or more...and slot machine players of approx 5+ hours a day....

I don't know if we will receive future offers, but it was fun....and we would definitely do it again.........

The rule of thumb has been $50/hand for 4 hours / day at the tables.

Thanks for gleaning that info Stephen :). I am assuming you mean cash out-of-pocket, not run-through, correct? My comps have slid downhill again, but could be based on the sailings I am pricing. Lately (last three or four cruises) I have been pretty consistent with about $1000 per day out-of-pocket (about 6 hours daily) , 7000-8000 average points per 7 day cruise (so $35,000-$40,000 run-through). On my latest inquiries, I have generally been offered comped mini-suites or balcony, even an occasional OV, but on a Baltics sailing my offer was BOGO OV (wow! It's a fairly low sold sailing too, shouldn't be heavy with CAS guests!). Used to be pretty consistently low-level suites at this or slightly better play. Perhaps they don't like that my play is not increasing? They have no problem letting me book two cruises out (I do have two basis sailings that they use). Am likely booking out three cruises on Friday or Monday (two comps and one distant sailing at discount, will change to comp after my next sailing), will let you know how it goes..

Hi Robin,

I completely forgot...she specifically mentioned Baltics and special itineraries as being less likely to have aggressive comps because a) they cost her more b) they were likely to sell-out anyway

Let me know how your bookings go... I have 4 basis cruises (and now 2 booked against them) but she said that was completely irrelevant.

That makes sense, although we find generally great comps on other European sailings.. Just got back from hospital with my daughter (minor surgery) and will likely get new pricing tomorrow and book by Monday. Will let you know!
