What time does embarkation really start? Can you board early or do you have to go by your boarding time? Not having sailed RC before I am not sure of procedures. Any one have information on this? Holland America has early boarding that starts at 11 for cruises that leave in the evening.

They will allow boarding to start as soon as all departing passengers are off the ship. Usually, that's around 11am...give or take. We arrive around 11:30 and have never had to wait to begin check-in.

I agree. Be there around 10:30 - 11 am and you will board shortly around that time. Have lunch (several places are open) at Windjammer (buffet), Park cafe, Sorrento's ect.

Thanks. I did not know what we would do all morning while we waited to board. So about 11.00 or 11.30. Is the dining room open for lunch on that day?

no...but you can head up to the WIndjammer.....and maybe something else, depending on what ship you're on

They usually start boarding around 11 am. The windjammer will be open for lunch. All of the public areas will be open to explore except your cabin area which will not open til around 1 to 1:30 pm

The last few cruises I've been on have had boarding closer to 12 than 11. Make sure you have something to do (book, etc) just in case you have a wait if you show up early.

On the small ships we usually can be on around 11. On some of the larger ships, they seem to make you wait at the pier in groups. Took 3 hours to get on liberty last year.

You can't get to your cabin until 1PM so only bring what you need in your carry-on (books, meds, suntan lotion, etc.) but keep it light since you'll have to lug it around with you.
