Early morning traffic FLL to MIA

We will be staying one night at the Hilton Marina in Fort Lauderdale after our cruise in March. We have an 8:40 AM flight out of Miami the next day which is a Tuesday and I'm a little concerned about traffic on a work day for the cab ride. We plan on leaving the hotel around 6am to get us to MIA around 7am, does this sound reasonable?

 

We have Hilton points and we prefer Fort Lauderdale to Miami so that is why we made these plans. Any thoughts on changing this to Embassy Suites near MIA for convenience vs entertainment value?

There is usually very little traffic before 7 AM. You might not run into any until you actually get to the airport.

Thanks for your reply. We will keep the hotel we have and make sure to leave by 6am.
