More Problems for NCL Crown in Bermuda

Yo-

OK - I've been lurking and watching this thread for some time now - so time for some of my thoughts-

#1 - The infection keeps going from cruise to cruise - which probably points more to the crew, the surfaces and the air duct work of the ship rather than to the influx of new passengers.

#2 - Remind your self where the majority of the crew comes from - Third World Countries - and the conditions - aboard this ship - that they live in - the fact that crew remain sick from voyage to voyage (seen in the medical area on IV's the day of sailing) and then remember that this ship suffers from mismanagement from the Captain down. When you add all this up it points the finger directly to the ship and crew.

#3 - We saw - first hand - that the casino slot machines and surfaces were NEVER cleaned in the 15 days we spent on the ship 04/04 to 04/18/2004. We brought this to the ships managements attention - early in the cruise - and it was NEVER corrected. How can you rule out one of the most intensive "hands on" public areas on any ship and ever expect to get a virus under control?

Mark my words - until NCL takes complete CONTROL of this ship and its crew - takes it out of service and cleans it from top to bottom and end to end and allows the crew to become healthy - the outbreaks will continue.

Big Mike,

How can you possibly say that the slot machines were NEVER cleaned in 15 days??? Video surveillance? Lets be fair, no one can say where this virus is actually beginning. So everyone should just do the right thing, wash your hands and keep hand to mouth contact to a minimum. I hope everyone cruising on the Crown has a wonderful time!

Besides which- wouldn't it be prudent for someone playing the slots or handling money ( which is germ ridden in itself) or chips- wash their hands thoroughly after playing- I do- even if I am in a "landlocked" casino-- Just makes sense to me..

If 2 lawyers get sick on a ship they'll file a lawsuit. If 3 or more get sick on a ship that's just a good start.

A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work.

The worst cruise I ever took was pretty damned good.

Platinum with RCI, a couple cruises with NCL and 1 with CCL

Clock remove but cruise in Dec

#1- I don't think that one's country of origin should be a determination as the cause of these outbreaks.

#2- If the crew were the source, then the percentage of crew members sick would be higher vice the percentage of passengers. Crew members live in VERY CLOSE QUARTERS which can include up to 3 crew members in one cabin. They also share communal bathrooms/ washrooms, and common areas such as dining and recreation.

#3- If you're wondering...yes, I've been there. icon_wink.gif

Yo Maryjane-

Were you there????

We were - and NEVER saw the machines or any other areas of contact being cleaned!!!

Yo, BigMike (why do all your posts start with "Yo")

I think MaryJane was making the point that you didn't watch the machines 24/7. Just because you didn't see them cleaned doesn't mean they weren't.

As soon as virus made it's appearance on our trip (4/25) the entire crew went into 'wipe-down' mode (including the Internet Cafe manager... I saw her heading into a public area with a bottle of disenfectent). In any case, I also saw three or four crew members wiping down the casino (at least the slot machines, anyway, which is what they were working on when I passed through the casino).

We just got off the Majesty and while we were on board there were these sanitation devices (they were about the size of gumball machines) outside the dining rooms & buffet stations. The host/hostesses would ask you to please use them before entering. It took 3 seconds to place your hand under it and antibactrial liquids came out. They also had hand wipes everywhere.

...Beyond that I am not sure what else the cruiseline can do to prevent sickness. People need to take some responsibility.

I am a germ-a-phob so I wouldn't use the public bathrooms on the ship and I was constantly washing my hands or using hand wipes. I know I sound crazy but it is better to be safe than sorry....I saw way too many "gross" behavior from the passengers that it is a wonder that people aren't sick more often. icon_eek.gif

Yo-

You guys are absolutely right - we were not there 24/7-

However we were in the Crown Room Bar - right next to the casino - every night from 8pm to 11pm or 12pm and I guarantee that we never saw the machines or other surfaces being cleaned for the 14 nights we went to the bar (also the heaviest times for passengers playing in the casino)- we also had the other "regulars" watching with us and the bartenders-

We brought it to the pursers desks attention on days 2 and 3 of the cruise - and nothing changed for the remainder of the cruise-

One can only wonder...........
