MR5SUNS Posted May 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2004 Hi Cruisers, Sailing in Aug. on the Dawn and i am wondering what i will be missing if i do not take along a suit or two? I will be bringing dress shirt's and pant's but do not know if i will be allowed into the Welcome aboard and farewell dinners without a suit SAL Norwegian Dawn "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S OVER ALREADY" 1981 CARNIVALE 1987 NORDIC PRINCE 1989 AMERIKANIS 1991 MERIDAN 1994 MERIDAN 1996 ISLAND BREEZE 2000 BIG RED BOAT 2002 TRIUMPH
wallygator Posted May 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2004 You will miss nothing other than the suit. Thats a fact. mbisson Posted May 9, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2004 You might miss the constricting, uncomfortable feeling a suit and tie bring. BUT I SURE WOULDN'T! Actually-I'm not familiar with the DAWN, but on my past freestyle cruises, there was a formal night in one of the dining rooms that did require traditional "formal night type attire", but they would always have another dining room available with the same menu for us "resort casual" dressers. -Monte some of my cruising photos: http://community.webshots.com/user/m1bisson A bad day cruising is better than a good day at work. Kuppykat Posted May 9, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 9, 2004 All that's needed are nice pants and a shirt and you already stated that's what you are bringing. I packed a sports jacket for my husband (just in case) and he did wear it when we were invited to the Captains cocktail party. Turns out others that showed up for the cocktail party were in pants and shirt. On formal night there were a few people dressed for photo's but I really didn't notice many people dressed up. Soooooo to answer your question, You will not miss a thing without your suit. trish1c Posted May 9, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 9, 2004 On formal night on the Sky in March the gentlemen at our table wore tuxedos, kilts, suits, blazer & tie, polo shirts & dress shirt no jacket or tie. We all ate together & had a blast. The guys who didn't at least have a jacket did say they were sorry they didn't pack one. Trish
ron46936 Posted May 9, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Definitely bring a suit. They won't let you in the pool without one
MOMofONE Posted May 9, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2004 Does this apply to the specialty restaurants as well? Is a jacket required for Le Bistro or others? We will be on Aloha repositoning so the restaurants will be "new" - guess we will have to base our decisions on other NCL Hawaii sailings. Thanks! az lily Posted May 9, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2004 after reading many reviews of the "dawn" on various critic venues it seems that all you will need are a pair of jeans, a tank top and a tattoo

Hobbsey Posted May 9, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 9, 2004 You might as well trust the brochure and the web site on this issue...All you need are resort casual clothing. Now, need and want are two different catagories. I'd bing a jacket and a tie just in case you get invited to the captains table (this happened to me and I had to scramble for a tie). 1968 Lurline (Matson) 1969 Mariposa (Matson) 1998 Seabreeze (Premier) 1998 Century (Celebrity) 1999 Seabreeze (Premier) 1999 Norwegian Crown (NCL) 1999 Voyager of the Seas (RCL) 2000 Westerdam (HAL) 2000 Carnival Victory (CCL) 2000 Sensation (CCL) 2001 Mercury (Celebrity) 2001 Norwegian Majesty (NCL) 2001 Vision of the Seas (RCL) 2002 Norwegian Wind (NCL) 2004 Maasdam (HAL)

newmexicoNita Posted May 10, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 10, 2004 I don't know what reviews you have been reading but anyone who thinks they can get by with jeans, tank tops, shorts etc will have a really cruddy time eating every meal at the buffet! Do you need a jacket? No, DH didn't wear one last time, but this time I think we will take one. Unless dressing up is your thing why would you even think of a suit? That's part of the freestyle attraction! jmcdon7230 Posted May 10, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 10, 2004 <<Does this apply to the specialty restaurants as well? Incidentally, they were Germans, not your usual "Ugly Americans".
