Montego Bay

Hello fellow CCers! We're headed to Montego Bay and need some excursion ideas. We're not really into the Falls and have done the bobsled. Seen the cliff divers. One of our party can not swim, so we're avoiding deep water activities. Would love some great photo stops. Also, we're not really wanting to drive as far as Ocho Rios if we can avoid it, but would for something spectacular. We're hoping for something somewhat economical if possible. We're going with another couple who have never been on a cruise or to Jamaica, so would like to give them a good experience. Have been looking at Peat Taylors tours as well as others. Would love to see a waterfall or something of nature's beauty like that.

Saw something about a Devils Bath Tub? Anyone have any info on that? I looked and didn't have much luck.

Also, Fern Gully, anyone have any recent info?

Also looking for a beach with hobie cats. Anyone know of one you've been to recently? How to get there, price?

If we can't find anything, we're thinking the Hopper bus to shop, relax at Doctors Cave Beach and spend some time at Margaritaville.

Anyone have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, cant help you with costing or anything, but I can give you a bit of advice. Fern gully is nice, however you said youre not into driving far to ocho rios, however fern gully is past ocho rios so it'll be a even bit of a longer drive, probably about 1hr45mins from mobay.

There is also the YS falls and Mayfield beach you can check out. That side of the island is more tropical and a lot less touristy. The falls however isnt as nice as dunns river.

Sorry but Fern Gully is currently closed. We were in Jamaica last week. We used Phil Lafayette. http://jamaicaphil.com/ You can contact him and see what he advises for a private tour. He helped us!!!

Indeed it currently is. However it'll be open soon. So depends on when they'll be in JA if they'll be able to visit fern gully.

Thanks for the replies everybody!

crazy1here & truchattycathy-Thanks both of you! All very helpful info. :):):) We'll be in JA in April.

nw2this-We're not into physically climbing Dunns. We would enjoy a picturesque waterfall without much of a crowded tourist/commercial scene.

Im pretty sure it'll be open by then, was supposed to open mid dec but there were some delays so Im pretty sure it'll be open by april.

Ok, that definitely sounds like YS falls, not too sure if they have group excursions there you'd have to check that part, but if not could just go with one of those personal guides and tell em you wanna go there. Definitely picturesque and not too touristy.

We (4 couples) spent a week in Mo Bay and traveled to OR and Negril and our favorite spot out of all of our traveling was right across the street from our little Doctors Cave Beach Hotel - Doctors Cave Beach! One of the most gorgeous beaches we've seen and it's just a few steps from Margaritaville. The fastest waterslide into the ocean we've ever seen is at Margaritaville by the way.

But I would make Jamaica a beach stop and highly recommend DCB for a day and Margaritaville for a lunch. Some great shops just down the street as well, we found alot of neat things while staying there and the prices were very reasonable. You will find even better prices further down but don't be put off by vendors trying to attract you, a simple "No, but thank you" is all you need.

How would you suggest getting to Doctor's Cave Beach from the cruise pier in Mo Bay? And how long would it take?

I've heard it is a $5 pp taxi/shuttle ride each way.

Blue Water,

Is the trampoline at Doctor's Cave included in the admission price?

Hi CarolRoy-There is also a Hop-on-Hop-off shuttle from the port that runs constant roundtrips to Doctor's Cave Beach, Margaritaville (just a couple doors down from Doctor's Cave Beach, from what I hear) and some shopping area. Tickets are purchased inside the port terminal at $15 per person and you can hop on and off as much as you want all day. That's a comparable price to $5 each way plus tips to a cab, plus you can make multiple stops at no additional charge. :) Our cab ride from Margaritaville to the pier took 15-20 minutes during what seemed to be rush hour around 4 p.m.
