dliteu Posted January 11, 2012 #126 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Very Well said As far as the person claiming some of us are duped into believing Carnival is so poor they need to feed us cheap food like meatloaf and macaroni.... I'm pretty certain you pulled that from a hat because I haven't seen ANYONE say that in ANY thread. They are offering a "comfort food" every night because not everyone wants to have a sit down meal and eat veal or lobster. Some people like food similar to what they'd eat at home. No, the "buffet" isn't what a lot of us eat either. It's one additional meal that is offered every day, I'm not sure how it's hurting anyone. If you don't want it, don't order it. The rest of us will gladly order it. By the way, I love meatloaf :) As far as the OP's complaints go... sure the salsa was disappointing. I'm a huge fan of salsa but I would just know not to order it the next time and leave it at that. I ordered a burrito from the "burrito bar" on the Dream and learned a valuable lesson and decided I wouldn't order another one. The Flat Iron steak has been part of the "great debate" for months on this site so I think everyone is well aware that it's a hit or miss option. Some will like it, others won't. The hair on the bed...the only thing I have to say is GROSS. I can't handle things like that so that is a pretty valid complaint. Enough said. The tv not working, it depends on the person. Sure, some people don't use the tv but I know we do. We are on vacation to relax and enjoy each other. We've watched numerous shows and movies while on vacation so it would probably affect us. We aren't the people you will find lounging next to the pool or in the casino. That isn't for us, so I can see how someone similar to us could be bored on a sea day. It makes a great nap time :) We've had some less than stellar food, rooms not in the best shape etc. but I guess it's what you make of it. We're lucky enough to be on a cruise so I'm going to make the best of it regardless of anything that disappoints me. I'm sure someone will tell me that these are huge ongoing problems that need fixed immediately or that I obviously don't know quality etc. but that's fine. I'd rather find a positive than dwell on the negative. :)
Gordie Howe Posted January 11, 2012 #127 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Hello? It's Carnival, what do you expect? I love how people pick the bargain-fare cruise line and complain about the bargain-fare service. Can you believe airlines charge for food, pillows AND blankets now? And the audacity to charge to even board the plane. When will it end?? What next, cruise lines charging more for a window?? Oh, they already do? Sorry. WeBeCruisin' Posted January 11, 2012 #128 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Excuse me who said someone was 'Bored' We all have a different opinion on what we want to do while aboard a cruise. I stopped counting cruises when I hit 25:rolleyes: and If you look @ my sig Im not loyal to any cruiseline. Maybe I enjoy lounging in my cabin................ Isnt that my or the OP's choice:confused: Calm down, skippy. The OP has said several times that he was bored and that there wasn't enough to do to hold his interest. I have been on other cruise lines, too, and have enjoyed all of them. If you enjoy lounging in your cabin, then you probably would not describe that as "boring". The OP did. sjn911 Posted January 11, 2012 #131 Share Posted January 11, 2012 I have seen people salt and pepper their steaks in the best restaurants - Ruth Chris's, Peter Luger's, Morton's, etc. To each their own. (and I won't even mention the fact that dh dunks his in - OMG - ketchup at these places!!) I would rather season steaks to my taste than have them be over-seasoned, as I like "bland" food. But we digress...:p:D It is horrible I know...but I love Heinz ketchup on wonderful steak...I think we had to eat so much tough steak..over Christmas Eve filet mignon type six star roast, seemed different than Prime rib??..my dad reminded us all we had the safe but tough cow butchered usually when done with other jobs..this is where the addiction started,,,:o..but I love good hamburger or Prime rib..LOL with a little Heinz..:p:o:D. OK...lots to read here...
frito58 Posted January 11, 2012 #132 Share Posted January 11, 2012 I'll answer it for you myself. I feel that over the last year the quality of product has degraded to a point of where i don't believe CCL is deserving of my hard earned money. I spent $1700 for our stateroom(balcony, empress, starboard, aft) for both myself and my wife... with tip. Additionally we spent ~$700 on board on jewelry, 2 new watches, an excursion in nassau, and miscellaneous other items. we spent $100 in gas to drive from houston to new orleans and spent another $180(split between us and her mom who sailed in the cabin next to ours) for a hotel room/parking package. it wasn't a "cheap" vacation, especially since i'm the only one between us who has a job at the moment, but it was something we both needed and we used it to celebrate her receiving her bachelors in december. I think for the price we paid we would have been able to pull off a better vacation, but hindsight is 20/20. I spend a lot of time on the computer looking at vacations and getatways as I am retired . Not sure what or where you could go and get food lodging ports of call for $2500 , Just sayin I am not slamming you by any means just giving my 2 cents. You were not happy that is for sure , but I guess I am from the North so any Vacation for us has to have airfare figured in. I looks as if you got a good deal on the cruise itself as cruises go, but I see your point you dropped a good bit of coin to come home unhappy . Hey I just bought a clunker of used pickup truck for twice that much and and going to end up losing about $2000 by the time I dump the dang thing lol so I know it stinks to lose your hard earned money:(:(

I love how people pick the bargain-fare cruise line and complain about the bargain-fare service. . You and others miss the point. The OP is comparing this Carnival cruise to Carnival cruises he has taken in ther past. Apples to apples. He had valid expectations due to past experience and they were not met. He enjoyed CCL before....it seems you don't and that's fine. But it would be nice if you understood the conversation before responding.

You can thank me later.:p http://petsadviser.com/grooming/why-do-dog-feet-smell-like-fritos/ The insane answer this person gave doesn't hold in my case as my dog eats a raw diet...no corn involved. K&P Luv2Cruise Posted January 11, 2012 #140 Share Posted January 11, 2012 I am not "fooled" nor do I think most others are. Carnival is "for profit" corporation. Until people stop cruising with them because of the mac and cheese and meatloaf, they will continue to maximize profits by providing less quality. Those things don't bother me, so I will continue to cruise with them. I am not fooled either. I feel that the price I pay for a cruise is reflected in the product I receive (if I was expecting the QE2 and got CCL instead, then I would be upset). By paying a lower cruise fare, I am able to afford 2 vacations per year rather than one very expensive one. When the appeal fades, I will look at alternative lines and venues. Until then, Carnival has my business. :)

BSUGrad Posted January 11, 2012 #144 Share Posted January 11, 2012 I'm disappointed that something as simple as guacamole and salsa is nothing more than something poured out of a bag and a jar. I am curious as to how you know this for a fact. Did you ask somebody and they told you it was prepackaged? Did you see them pouring it out of bag or a jar? They could be, but you are stating this as fact, and I am not sure you know it for a fact.

Silverscreencruiser Posted January 11, 2012 #146 Share Posted January 11, 2012 First, I can't agree with blaming Carnival about missing ports or what the captain should have "done" to make up for it. Potentially missing a port for weather or local conditions is a hazard of cruise travel. If that idea bothers you, don't cruise. It's like blaming the cruise line because the weather was too hot or too cold. And if a port must be cancelled, a cruise line has limited options while at sea to make up for it. There's only so many alternate ports that can handle the ship within their 7-day travel window, and these ports have other traffic in and out as well. As far as the complaints about the quality, if you feel that makes a difference for you, then by all means go elsewhere. If enough people react the same way as you do, Carnival will take steps to correct it. People do not want the lowest priced product available otherwise everyone would be eating all their meals at McDonalds. People want to pay the lowest price for what they consider acceptable quality. It's your vacation and your money and you have every right to demand a certain level of quality, if you're willing to pay the price that entails. Carnival's business model is built in large part around those people who would otherwise be staying at a Motel 6 near a beach somewhere and eating their meals at Applebee's. I'd personally love better quality food but I'm not willing to spend the hundreds of extra dollars that would entail, either on land or at sea. Carnival provides me with as good a vacation as I'd likely be getting somewhere else, so I can abide what I get at this price. Should things change, I'll reconsider.
