CarolRoy Posted January 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Has anyone taken the public New Orleans bus from the airport to Canal St., business district, or anywhere near the cruise terminal. Also has anyone taken the bus when disembarking from the cruise terminal to the airport? 2012 – Carnival Conquest – Feb. – W. Caribbean 2011 – Westerdam HAL – Dec. – E. World Gallery Posted January 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Others can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a public bus that does this route. I have lived here my whole life and I have never seen a public bus servicing people at the airport to downtown.
VideoTech Posted January 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Others can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a public bus that does this route. I have lived here my whole life and I have never seen a public bus servicing people at the airport to downtown. In any case, why would you take a public bus from the airport to downtown? That would be a slow, slow ride with many stops! Cabs from the airport to the pier are a fixed rate, if I recall, something around $30?
CarolRoy Posted January 11, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted January 11, 2012 Others can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there is a public bus that does this route. I have lived here my whole life and I have never seen a public bus servicing people at the airport to downtown. I got the following info from the New Orleans Airport site. Maybe you can give me your insight into this. Public Transit: The Airport-Downtown Express (E-2) Bus picks up outside airport Entrance #7 on the upper level. jeffersontransit.org The fare for Airport-Downtown Express (E-2) is $2.00. The fare boxes will accept $1, $5, $10, $20 dollar bills and all U.S. coins. The Airport-Downtown Express (E-2)provides service from the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, down Airline Drive into New Orleans, which takes approximately 35 minutes. The Airport bus stop is on the second level of the Airport in the outer lanes at Door 7. For more information on public transit in the area, visit the Jefferson Transit website, www.jeffersontransit.org, or the RTA website www.norta.com. Thanks for your help. 2012 – Carnival Conquest – Feb. – W. Caribbean 2011 – Westerdam HAL – Dec. – E. World Gallery Posted January 12, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2012 I would see if there is a phone number to call and ask about it. That would be your best bet, then based on what they tell you, maybe some of us from NOLA can help.
Lynda59 Posted January 12, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2012 There is another older thread about this. The airport is in Jefferson Parish and the city is Orleans Parish. (you call them counties, we call them parishes) The bus systems are completely separate companies - Jeff Transit and then RTA in New Orleans. I have not caught this bus in years, but they are not connected systems like in other cities. These buses are not meant for travelers with lots of luggage. These are buses for riders going to work. You can get by with a backpack or a small suitcase. The Airport bus does not connect to anywhere near the port. The airport bus goes down Airline Drive (Hwy. 61). On the weekends it ends at Tulane and Carrollton. During the week it ends at Tulane and Loyola. They are not Express buses - it would make many, many stops along the way (you can literally get off just about every block). On the weekend, you would then need to walk to Canal St. (on the weekend this would be about 1/2 mile through a not so great area on Carrollton) and then catch the Canal St. bus. At the end of Canal you would probably need to catch the Riverfront streetcar - check the threads on Gulf Coast Departures or New Orleans (under Ports of Call). I know other people have posted about this - but I think it is still a walk after the last streetcar stop. (Since I am from here I don't ride it very often) Hope this helps. I just don't think it was meant for cruisers because of the luggage.
World Gallery Posted January 12, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2012 One other note - You definitely cannot bring luggage onto a street car.

slybear Posted January 13, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 13, 2012 There are NO regulations against bringing your luggage on the bus from airport or the streetcar. It might not be easy if crowded, but it is do-able.
Almost Packed Posted January 23, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 23, 2012 i too was searching for info on public transportation. dh & i often enjoy taking public transportation as it's a easy way to see and meet people along they way. we always have something interesting to see/talk about when we ride a bus. the bus ride alone can be very entertaining. Of course, this depends on how much time we have too. But i have researched this myself and it's not feasible for us while on a cruise. i like to pack too much and ds will be traveling with us. too bad all ports couldn't get with it and make an easily accessible public transportation to the ports...ie train/bus etc. i'd really love to see galveston too be easier to access from airport. as it is, i caught a $35 air fare on SW and it's gonna cost me just as much for a cab ride as my airfare to the port. crazy right.
