Hi Everyone

I just had a knee replacement in November. I have on week left with rehab and was wondering if anyone knows the distance around the walking/jogging track on Celebrity Equinox. I am so ready to be active again and love to walk.

We are going in March. Thanks a bunch for any input.

Happy Cruising everyone !!

It is eight laps per mile / five laps per kilometer.

Good luck with the recovery and enjoy Equinox; she is a beautiful ship. :)

Your best bet may be vigorous pool walking in the pool at the Solarium. As you know, pool walking is twice as efficacious as land walking, and less stressful for the old joints. Like many other old folks, I have O/A in my right knee; and for the last three years, and many years prior thereto, I have vigorously pool walked at least one hour per day which translates to two hours land walking. That, together with my other ancillary exercises, provides a daily exercise regimen of at least three hours.

It must be working, since I only ingested Aleve four times in 2011.

Hi Kimberley

Yes !! I was nervous about my surgery also but it all went very well. The therapy is so important to get the range of motion and extension back. I can be painful at times but is well worth it. I had my knee done November 4 and I am doing very well. Tell your husband the pain he is living with now will be gone.

I didn't have a swivel knee replacement. This is the first time I have heard of it. I will look it up.

Best of luck to your husband for a speedy recovery. When is his surgery ?

Great idea about about using the Solarium pool. Below are a couple of my pictures to give you a better idea on these two different ship options. The walking track can be nice, but does get a little crowded during the the middle of the afternoon on sea days. It has a rubberized surface, making such walking easier. As noted below, we loved the Solarium area. Two good options to consider!!

THANKS! Enjoy your recovery and cruise! Terry in Ohio

Did a June 7-19, 2011, Solstice cruise from Barcelona that had stops in Villefranche, ports near Pisa and Rome, Naples, Kotor, Venice and Dubrovnik. Enjoyed great weather and a wonderful trip. Dozens of wonderful visuals with key highlights, tips, comments, etc., on these postings. We are now at 56,048 views for this live/blog re-cap on our first sailing with Celebrity and much on wonderful Barcelona. Check these postings and added info at:

This is a view of the upper floor level above the main pool area on the Solstice. This illustrates how the space for walking can be a little narrow and congested during the middle of the afternoon as this area fills up with people enjoying the sun, etc. Things are easier and more open earlier in the am, plus in the evenings.:

The Solarium was one of our favorite areas. Food and drinks were nearby and it was very relaxed and sophisticated. Quieter, too, as it is an adults-only area. Two hot tubs here. Not crowded, especially in the evenings. Nice art and design with this facility. Wonderful setting for relaxing and watching the outside water/shore views, enjoying subtle inside action, etc.:

Love the photo's. We cannot WAIT to be on the ship. Thank you so much.

Glad you like the photo's. Lots more of the Solstice on my live/blog that is linked below. Don’t be shy and feel free to ask any questions of interest here or on that posting. The only "dumb question" is the one you don't ask. Appreciate the kind comments. Nice to hear that the pictures get you excited for your upcoming cruise.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

I had my knee replaced in September, and was walking, without any pain

for my cruise in November. I, too, was very nervous (the "what if I die on the table syndrome), but the surgery was easier than the rehab.....just as the OP

stated. The results are amazing! You can once again go ashore without trying to calculate how far you have to walk from the ship to the pier, and from the taxi to the beach, and decide if it's worth it. I also had two knees

that needed total replacement, and , I'll tell you, my remaining "bad" knee

feels incrementally better than it did before the surgery, so it's a double benefit.

Best wishes. Also, is a lack of the patella a problem with regard to a knee replacement?

thank you for the well wishes....yes having no patella will be a problem,as all the ligaments and acl was cut a long time ago.My husband asked if they could make a new patella and put it in but since there is no ligaments or an acl to attach to its a no.He lives with so much pain,it just breaks my heart..

It is amazing what doctor's can do now with knees. I couldn't agree more with buffi001. Every move is calculated because of the pain. It wears on you. Sounds like you have good doctor's working with your husband. Having the surgery done in March and cruising in November will give him lots of time to heal and go through rehab. He will be the happiest cruiser on board. Best of luck.

Hi Everyone

I just had a knee replacement in November. I have on week left with rehab and was wondering if anyone knows the distance around the walking/jogging track on Celebrity Equinox.

Is it bionic? Will you be able to leap tall fences in slow motion?

Watch out Steve Austin !!!

Did anyone else notice that to make him look like he was running fast the slowed his running down?

Sorry, wasn't taking the P. Hope you see the funny side of the above.

Hello,

As a part of my knee rehab we went on the Solstice last year after my knee replacement. I used the pool for water walking and the recumbent bicycle in the gym. I found the track was too unpredictable with lots of people walking. Maybe it would have better early in the morning. No problem getting around the ship or buffet!! Ice cream seemed to help too! Best wishes for a great cruise.

I do wish their walking deck was not around the pool area. It should be either lower or somewhere where you are not walking around where people are lounging. Last time there was a runner who kept complaining that people were getting in her way. Well with that many people sitting and enjoying the sun it was sort of hard.

My dad just had a knee replacement in Dec and we're sailing in May. I'm hoping he'll be feeling well then. Therapy is rough.

I need to look into what medical services will be available on board the Equinox for him in case he has alot of pain. I know he benefits from cortisone shots and the like if he's planning on going on vacation or walking long periods of time.

That is a very good thought. My guess is that the M.D., on board is probably a g.p., not a specialist. You might wish to bring along all of your med records from the surgery.
