Help! What can we expect? We are booked on Marina and our stop at Monte Carlo is the first day of the Grand Prix. Should we consider changing our booking? We had visited Monte Carlo once ten years ago and always wanted to return. What will await us if we arrive on May 24th?

It kills me to hear that you are looking at being in Monaco for the start of the Grand Prix as a downside.

Sure, it won't be a typical port stop, but typical is highly overrated. The Grand Prix is EPIC!

Even if you hate car races, the people watching will be phenomenal. You'll be surrounded by Rothschild's and Getty's and Grimaldi's galore! If you have a daughter of marriageable age, bring her along! ;)

In short, you'll just have to make up your mind to either "go with the happy accident" and celebrate that you are in Monte Carlo for such an exciting occasion, or change your booking.

We were there just before it started last year. The main problem we encountered was that a fair number of streets were blocked off and you had to work your way around the race. The yachts that were in the harbour were fantastic to look at and all along the French Riveria coast where other yachts were anchored. The stores are full of Grand Prix merchandise and it is interesting to people watch to see what people are buying. I am sure we saw very famous people but had no idea who we saw. Others seemed quite impressed with certain people and were taking pictures of them, but unfortunately that was lost on us as we really had no idea. If the crush of people is too much take the train to another town on the French Riveria. Plenty of ways to spend your time and enjoy the port.
