Cruzin RN Posted January 29, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2012 We have a foster child and we dont know how to plan for our summer cruise. 1.We dont know if he will still be with us in June. 2. We dont know if the parents will allow us to travel with him(now they are saying no). The judge and DFAc will not override. if we book to include him, and #1 happens, is it easy to cancel one person from the stateroom without penalty??? If #2happens, we will just cancel the whole trip, we know how to do that
kitty9 Posted January 29, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2012 If you cancel only his reservation, it has to be done within a specific timeline without you losing your money. For example, if you cancel before final payment date, you get everything back. But if you wait until, say, a week before, you lose all your money for his fare. Same for you and the rest of your family. If you cancel before final payment, you get your money back, and if you cancel close to sailing date, you lose everything. Do you have travel insurance? Maybe you want to look into that, and make sure you have "cancel for any reason" coverage. But, make sure that if you booked through an agency that they don't have cancellation fees. Many agencies will charge you an amount even if you cancel early.
Narla Posted January 29, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2012 As a foster carer you are entitled to 14 days respite care a year. (Or maybe you have different regulations to fostering agencies in the UK?) Not ideal I know for a child to experience another family - but you have the time now to ask your fostering agency to link you up with another family who could potentially be the child's respite family for the time you are on your cruise. That way there is time and opportunity for introductions so it's planned and explained and not another shock move for a child.
