Hello everyone

You've all been so kind posting back so quickly.

You have given us far more to think about, with many more ideas and possibilities.

Whichever itinary we decide on it will be thanks to all of you and your help.

I hope that you all enjoy planning your next vacation as much as we are enjoying planning this one and, if you come to the UK, don't forget to visit Wales... It's beautiful ;)

The name of the ship that will be visiting Saugatuck, Michigan starting in June is called The Yorktown. Saugatuck is a quaint little town that we love! According to our local paper it is a 138 passenger ship. We are excited to see it visit several times this summer! :)

I'm sorry not to have any specific help, but wanted to mention that my mom took a Great Lakes cruise as part of an Elderhostel tour and absolutely loved it. She said that it allowed her to see things in a way that she never had before, and it gave her small tastes of several places she had never visited.

We are checking out a cruise either in Ontario, Canada or New England for mid-June. We found two possibilities and you might be interested in both of them.

1. New England Islands (Nantucket Sound area) June 10 for 6 nights from Providence RI, American Star List prices are quite expensive and only the higher priced cabins are available, but I'm waiting to hear a "special offer".

2. Quinte Cruise on Trent-Severn Waterway and St. Lawrence/1000 Islands (Ontario Water way Cruises, Inc). Kingston, Ontario to Peterborough Ontario, June 11 to 16 -- 5 nights CN$1748 . (You actually start from Peterborough, parking there and taking a bus to Kingston to board the ship). The Canadian dollar costs about US$1.01 right now.

For more info on the Trent-Severn Canal System, see the Parks Canada site.

I've cruised both of these areas in my own sail or power boat in past years but no longer have a boat. Both are very interesting -- far more so that a cruise on the Great Lakes would be.

I also think you should consider Alaska by both ship and by train (to Denali National Park).

Last, if anyone has ever cruised with Ontario Waterway Cruises, Inc., I'd be pleased if you would share your experience.

We have not sailed the Kawartha Voyageur but it is a quite basic ship ..showers down the hall, make your beds etc... Though the itinerary would be interesting

Maybe a houseboat rental would be of interest

We have sailed the Canadian Empress from Kingston..which was an interesting cruise ;)

I got a brochure on Great Lakes Cruises the other day. Yes, it was for the Yorktown. It looked interesting, but the prices were quite high. However, these trips do sell out.

One company we really like for all sorts of river cruises in the US is American Cruise Lines. www.americancruiselines.com

Generally an older crowd which suits us just fine. No casino. Some alcohol is included.

Good day,

I am thinking about a Great Lakes cruise on the Yorktown. Can't find any reviews. What did you think of the ship? Did you enjoy the cruise? Thanks you so much. Maureen aka nobags
