TJACord Posted May 18, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Is there a charge for room service on NCL cruises? I really did'nt realize the service was offered.
smeyer418 Posted May 18, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 18, 2004 its free but don't forget to tip a buck or two...Pizza delivery too
zimmerjulie Posted May 18, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 18, 2004 It is offered free, and is a great thing, especially on mornings where you have an early port call. You can have your breakfast brought to you, while you shower/prepare for your day in port, which is a great time saver. I like to tip a buck or too, also, as I consider it a special personal service and appreciate the extra effort that goes into bringing the food right to my door. Enjoy! unga Posted May 18, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 18, 2004 I was wondering (since this is my 1st cruise) what is the tipping procedure for freestyle cruising?? I know they are automatically deducting a tip from my ncl account but does that include restaurant tips??
Hobbsey Posted May 18, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 18, 2004 Unga, yes the auto tips cover the restaurant staff and the cabin steward. There will be service charges added to bar bills and spa services (I believe). The only other tips you may need to give out wold be for Porters to handle bags on the pier and for room service. Of course, if you feel compelled by some fabulous extra someone does for you, you can tip more or less to any particular server over and above the auto tip. 1968 Lurline (Matson) 1969 Mariposa (Matson) 1998 Seabreeze (Premier) 1998 Century (Celebrity) 1999 Seabreeze (Premier) 1999 Norwegian Crown (NCL) 1999 Voyager of the Seas (RCL) 2000 Westerdam (HAL) 2000 Carnival Victory (CCL) 2000 Sensation (CCL) 2001 Mercury (Celebrity) 2001 Norwegian Majesty (NCL) 2001 Vision of the Seas (RCL) 2002 Norwegian Wind (NCL) 2004 Maasdam (HAL)
lesleyfb Posted May 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I had never tried room service before cruising and in fact the first couple of cruises we did we enjoyed the dining room & buffets so much we didn't order anything. However, now we like to order breakfast and eat it on our balcony or sometimes when you are so tired you can't be bothered to dress up to go eat it's great. We always take plenty of $1 bills for tips i.e. luggage porters, room service, excursion tips. On some lines you only get a continental type breakfast but on Celebrity you get the full monty. We loved it.

Now THAT would be quite a sight to wake up to (NOT!). P.S. I always tip for room service with the amount depending on the size and complexity of the meal. $1-2 for a continental breakfast, $4-5 for a full dinner. zimmerjulie Posted May 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 19, 2004 got a smile out of that too! At breakfast? Guess folks'll have to bring even MORE singles ($1 bills, that is ) on Celebrity. Brings a new meaning to "Room Service" .
jkrislc Posted May 20, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 20, 2004 The only charge for room service would be a specially ordered item like chocolate dipped strawberries, alcohol, and the like. The standard in-room menu will include the non-charge/included fare. MidtheNight Posted May 21, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 21, 2004 My kids were 12 and 7 and their first cruise 6 years ago and discovered "room service" for their late night munchie snacks. Now with a dozen cruises under their belts the first thing they look at when we get to our room is the dang room service menu! We always make sure that we have some handy small bills in the room in one of the drawers that they can use to tip the staff at delivery.
