Gayle V Posted February 8, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Do they use a card with magnetic strip or code numbers, to open?
suzinva Posted February 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 8, 2012 When I was on (April 2011), they used a card with a magnetic strip. I used my expired Costco card.

coasterbrad Posted February 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Yup, they use cards. I brought two of the same cards (casino rewards cards) and could use either one to open the safe. If you have more than one person using the safe, that is really convenient.
Gayle V Posted February 8, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Thanks everyone. I don't think I have two of the same card, of any type. That sure would have made things easier.
serene56 Posted February 8, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Thanks everyone. I don't think I have two of the same card, of any type. That sure would have made things easier. What we do is put the card in a pocket of a dress shirt hanging in the closet. That way if one of us needs something and we are not together-- its easy access

Sometimes those magnetic strips don't work all the time. Does your ship card work? Thanks
Ehpride Posted February 8, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 8, 2012 Don't use your ship card. It can demagnetize it. I typically use an old gift card and just hide it somewhere in the cabin.

serene56 Posted February 9, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 9, 2012 . Does your ship card work? Thanks If you use the sign and sail card and it demagnitizes it could take up to 48 hours to get your safe opened. Do NOT use that card. Jasalth Posted February 9, 2012 #11 Share Posted February 9, 2012 In December our room had the magnetic strip. We had an old McDonald's Gift Card we used which worked great for it! If you are flying in, a suggestion for one to "use and throw away" would be see what food is offered at the airports you are using, buy a $5 gift card and get a snack while waiting! We tend to bring a lot of medicines we probably won't need for the ship cause it's to expensive to get them on board. We had a box of Band-aid's that we just put the card in and left closed on the vanity.

croaziera Posted February 9, 2012 #13 Share Posted February 9, 2012 I used my Safeway Club Card and it always worked.
Gayle V Posted February 9, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Great ideas everyone. I like the "put it in a shirt pocket idea". I doubt if the room steward or any one else has the time to search through all our clothes to find it. And I've even found the perfect used gift card to use. Thanks. Colorado Kat Posted February 9, 2012 #15 Share Posted February 9, 2012 One time I forgot to bring a special card, and tried to use my hotel room keycard from the night before sailing. For some reason that would not work. So now I keep a used-up gift card with my cruise things.
