Is the landscape nice by mid April, any flowers , weather VS early october, can anybody suggest what may be best.

I lived in Germany for four years. Germany has a short summer (used to joke it was two weeks). Actually, while summer is short, the temperatures are not extreme all year around.

Mid-April or early October would be similar, I might be tempted to go with October.

We took our trip last September and the weather was almost perfect. We had moderate temperatures both day and night. Except for days 1 and 2 around Amsterdam (it rained a bit) we didn't need a jumper at any time.

Mid April is tuliptime in The Netherlands.

October hardly has any flowers.

We did Rhine cruise last year in the second week of September. We were fortunate to have had amazing weather, both through the cruise and continued right through our extended stay in Germany until the beginning of October. While there were not the beauty of spring flowers in Amsterdam, there were acres of sunflowers in bloom throughout Europe, along with the most spectacular hanging baskets and window boxes of geraniums. Enjoy :)
