CruisinKiddo Posted February 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 11, 2012 Will be on the Voyager going out of New Orleans in 3 weeks!! Very excited! How is the sailaway along the banks of the Mississipi River? Are there folks out there waving us and watching the boat go by? Are there any interesting sites to see as we saild down the river? Anyone know how long it takes to get to the ocean? Thanks!
BillB48 Posted February 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 11, 2012 It's been awhile since I have sailed up/down the Mississippi from NOLA, but if I remember it's about 6 hours or so. Since I don't think you will have the benefit of Daylight Saving Time for your sailing, it will get dark on the early side. There probably won't be scads of folks waving at you but there maybe an occasional wave or two. Can't think of anything interesting to look at that jumps into mind, but I always enjoyed the scenery even when it was dark. The trip on the river is great... enjoy! seaofwonder Posted February 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2012 You can't really see anything as it is pretty pitch black out there. You'll see the lights of the oil rigs and that's about it. But that in itself is really neat to see. The ship does rock a bit as it is maneuvering the bends of the river.
ARCruisinNana Posted February 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2012 We were on Voyager in Dec,,so it was dark when we were sailing out. (we left late, about 5:15). It took us 9 hours to get to open waters. It was pretty to see the lights of the oil rigs. Hope you get away on time and you should have a couple hours of light.
