Boatswain Turtle Farm contact issues

Yogi, isn't it just a tourist site to see sealife, including turtles, snorkeling, beach, etc?

It is a farm. They raise green sea turtles with most ending up on the dinner plate. There is a rather tourist friendly presentation and the large production tanks are mostly out of view.

http://www.turtle.ky works for me. They dropped the Boatswain's Beach name and went back to using the name Cayman Turtle Farm.

mtslone,

To be honest, we were kind of horrified to see the holding tanks which were packed solid with turtles waiting to be "harvested."

When the guide mentioned that a hurricane had hit the farm a number of years ago and the tanks were broken, freeing the turtles, we raised a silent cheer and prayed for another hurricane!;)

Lucky you live in the city, 'cause those cows that are munching on grass in farmers' fields today will likely be your hamburger or steak at dinner some night in the not-so-distant future... :D

Anyone else getting blocked when trying to go to the Turtle Farm site? When I try to go direct to Boatswain's, it hs been erroring for 2 days. Does anyone have a phone number for them by chance?

Thanks

Hopefully this doesn't get to you too late... not sure when you're cruising. I've been looking into going to Boatswain's in July and have had no trouble getting onto their website. Here is their contact information:

Cayman Turtle Farm

I tried to buy tickets also butthe site was not working. Does anyone know if they reimburse you if your ship cannot dock for some reason?

Their website is www.turtle.ky and is working right now at least! But you can just book this through your cruise line. They call the tour by different names depending on the cruise line. If you get the deal that includes the "entire park" admission then you can snorkel in a lagoon that has several turtles plus hundreds of fish swimming around in it, you can watch the sharks being fed (by hand!), you can hand-feed several different types of birds, and swim in a large fresh-water pool with a water slide. Some of the cruise tours only include the "front" part of the park which is where you can see the turtles and have your photo taken holding one. And yes they will reimburse you if your ship cannot dock for some reason.

Also I should mention ...

Cayman Turtle Farm: Island Wildlife Encounter is moving to www.turtle.ky but the credit card "shopping cart" engine is still on www.boatswainsbeach.ky and partway through the domain transition, the security certificate for the old site expired. Because of where they are at in the process, it is proving to be quite a challenge for the logistics to get the certificate renewed on the old site, but it might possibly happen any day now. In the meantime the old shopping cart works fine except for the worrying warning, and guests who book using the old shopping cart get their reservations processed "no problem." They have also started building a shopping cart in the new website that should be a big improvement over the old one.
