New to Princess

Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone would be able to answer a few questions I have about Princess:

1. Have you sailed on the Emerald before? Is this one of the newer ships? I tried to look for some pictures but couldn't find any besides a few brochure ones.

2. Is it easy to get any time dining during dinner hours? Or is there a wait?

3. What about bar service? Are there lots of bartenders and various bars throughout the ship?

4. Nightlife. What do most people do after dinner?

5. Upgrades. We booked a guaranteed balcony. We don't have a room. How frequent are upgrades?

6. How easy is embarkation and disembarking?

Thank you! :)

Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone would be able to answer a few questions I have about Princess:

1. Have you sailed on the Emerald before? Is this one of the newer ships? I tried to look for some pictures but couldn't find any besides a few brochure ones. Sje is not the newest, but have been around for just a few years and is beautiful!

2. Is it easy to get any time dining during dinner hours? Or is there a wait? If you eat early or late , usually no wait. But prime time you will wait.

3. What about bar service? Are there lots of bartenders and various bars throughout the ship? Bars are all over the Ship!

4. Nightlife. What do most people do after dinner? show, dancing, strolling on deck , casino

5. Upgrades. We booked a guaranteed balcony. We don't have a room. How frequent are upgrades? Upgrade fairy can strike if she wishes, just do not count on it. Any balcony will be great!

6. How easy is embarkation and disembarking? Easy on, easy off! No worries just sit back and enjoy your trip

Thank you! :)

Did the Baltic on Emerald Princess in 2009 with Anytime dining and had no issues at all at any time we arrived. Was on her again last month and the line ups for Anytime dining were well over an hour long at 5:30, 6, 6:30 (don't know about later) and this was very distressing. You can always make a reservation for a certain time each night.

The Emerald Princess is a lovely ship introduced in 2007 and you will surely have a great time. As the OP stated, lots of bars and sufficient nightlife to keep everyone happy. The Baltic cruise is very port intensive but a wonderful experience.

Hi all!

Just wondering if anyone would be able to answer a few questions I have about Princess:

1. Have you sailed on the Emerald before? Is this one of the newer ships? I tried to look for some pictures but couldn't find any besides a few brochure ones.

I have some photos I took of her in FLL from the Crown. If you do a search on Webshots, you'll probably find some albums posted by others who've cruised on her that might include inside shots.

2. Is it easy to get any time dining during dinner hours? Or is there a wait?

That can vary day by day. Just remember that there are two anytime dining rooms, so if one is crowded, try the other one. And there's never any need to stand in line -- they give you a pager and you can relax . . .

3. What about bar service? Are there lots of bartenders and various bars throughout the ship?

. . . in one of the many bars. You won't go thirsty, my friend!

4. Nightlife. What do most people do after dinner?

Me, I drink martinis and read. Others go to the production show in the main theatre, smaller shows (comedians, hypnotists, etc.) in the smaller lounge venues, bands for listening/dancing, game shows/trivia matches, the disco, and Movies Under the Stars.

5. Upgrades. We booked a guaranteed balcony. We don't have a room. How frequent are upgrades?

It depends. If you booked a guarantee in one of the lowest categories of balconies, where there are only a handful of cabins in that category, you have a better chance of ending up in a balcony in a higher category. If you booked one of the top categories, you're much more likely to end up with what you booked, as upgrades out of the balcony category into a minisuite are rare.

6. How easy is embarkation and disembarking?

Very. One nice thing about disembarkation is that Princess assigns you a specific time and a specific public room in which to wait for disembarkation, so that eliminates lots of the chaos and confusion of crowded corridors (how 'bout that alliteration?).

Thank you! :)
