Would you give up your Cove for a regular balcony?

This morning I decided to check the current rates for my cruise as I always do. To my surprise my rate had dropped from $1179 to $1169. Now I know it was only $10 but hey, that's like 1-1/2 drinks on board. So I called up Carnival to see about a rate reduction, and was told that that rate was only for the regular balconies, but I could upgrade to an 8C from my 7C and get the lower rate. So I pulled the trigger. Do you guys think I did the right thing?

We sail for the first time on the 26th on Magic. We have a cove booked and am so excited to try it out. I won't know until next summer when we sail Alaska and have a regular balcony which kind we'll prefer. But for now I'm going to say the coves are the best for privacy and scenery. I don't want a balcony where people can look in at me and it seems that all the higher ones are that way.

We had a cove on the Magic, and it was great, other than a little damp. The location is super for getting on and off ship. I still prefer a higher up balcony though. Just one cruiser's opinion..If you are shopping purely for price, and cannot get an upgrade, the cove is the way to go.

I've never cruised in a cove balcony but I would think that a regular balcony would be a little better because you are higher on the ship. When are you crusing and on what ship? I am cruising in a cove on the dream in sept 2012.

Its always a question. I had a 1A with two port holes and OV size and there was a price drop of $60 if I upgraded to a IS, inside gty. I said ok, and before I had been assigned there was another price match to a IS for a additional $60 I believe. I had a 25% off so I actually wound up with $104 in OBC because of it somehow. I moved to Deck 9, Lido deck inside. I would have rather had the 1A with port holes, but not $104 worth.

For $10 pp .. it would have been a toss up. To me the 8C you moved to would be on a more convenient deck .. you did it, enjoy the new location.

Ok so false alarm!!! After booking the 8C cabin, I decided to do a mock booking and and double check the fare price. To my surprise there was ANOTHER drop and the new fare was $1099! After looking further in, I saw that there was only one room at the even lower price, guess what room it was....My old cabin!!! So I called carnival back and the cruise specialist was more than happy to book me back into my cove, and instead of the $10 price drop, I saved $80 p/p AND got to keep my cove!!!

This is our second cruise, and since our first was an interior cabin on the Triumph, I'm sure we'll enjoy either one.

All the more reason to book a cove on your third cruise as a lot of PAX say they're great and variety is the spice of life.

Good job following up with the price-check, sure paid off. I'm kind of surprised they dropped the fare on the relist if it was truly the last in that category.

Not sure if it was the last. But since I re-booked it, if you try to do a mock booking, it says $1099 all the way up to the part where you select your rate(ES, Past Guest, FS, etc) and the $1099 rate isn't available. If you select another rate and move on to cabin selection, Cove is greyed out.

Can someone explain why so many people like the Cove over the regular balconies? Are they bigger? I understand they are on the lower floors. Also they are cheaper then the regular balconies correct?

Cheaper yes, new experience, closer to the water. Cunard has these inhull balconies for very cheap .. no one wants them .. huge hit on Carnival because they are something new to Carnival.

Also, on these ships the first deck above the promenade, the balconies are not private, because the hot tubs that stick out can see into them on this new class of ships, so people are staying away from the first two decks above promenade of balconies because people in hot tubs can see into their balcony.

Theres no accounting for taste. Some just try one and get hooked on the lower location and unique perspective. Seem to have a cult following. Move up to a cove from OV or inside and most people would think they were in heaven.

I wouldn't have done it... but that's me.

We have a Cove for our cruise on the Magic March 4... prices now are down $140 below my current rate on my Cove but I'd have to move to a standard balcony... not gonna do it.

We had a Cove on the Dream and fell in love with it. I won't book any other balcony cabin type on a Dream Class ship...

:)
