Rental Cars by the port

I was wondering if there were any places to rent cars near where the ships dock. Also does anyone advise against getting a rental car, I know there is a lot of traffic in the afternoon and I plan on leaving plenty of time to get back. Thanks in advance for your help.

We have one booked for our day in March. We know the island well and are visiting on a Sunday so we feel very comfortable doing this. For our family of five renting a car makes sense. If there are only two of you and you just want to go to a couple of popular locations and you want to relax with a few cocktails then a taxi would be a better option. A tour is another way to go but if you like to explore on your own I think that this is a good island to do that on.

St.Martin is pretty easy for renting & driving around. Just watch the traffic if you go near the airport. It gets back-up sometimes and they have accidents that stop traffic.

Right at the end of the dock they have a building that has all the rental car places.

They all are pretty competive so don't pre-book ahead of time..

Do you think that there are enough cars at the rental agencies by the pier to just wing it when there are 6 or 7 ships in port?

How about parking at things like Maho Beach? We like to explore on our own but I don't want to waste all of our time looking for parking.

We rented a Jeep last year and we also reserved one for our cruise next week. We enjoyed having our own vehicle. We went to Marigot, Maho Beach, and a few other stops along the way. There is PLENTY of parking at Maho; the casino is next door and they have a big lot to park.

We had a car booked with Coastal. Not far from pier - off to the right. BUT - and its a big BUT - there were 3 cruise ships in port - and one of them was a 6000 person boat. Equivalent of 10,000 people on shore. Traffic was RIDICULOUS. My family ended up turning around after 2 hours because they were NOT enjoying themselves

We would love to rent a jeep!! Did you do this at the pier and was it pricey? Thanks!!
