woodsy64 Posted February 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 22, 2012 I haven't flown for a couple of years. Are you allowed to use electronic devices on planes (i.e. cell phones, e-readers, tablets?)
lhhjrs76 Posted February 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 22, 2012 Look up your airlines website and check for their guidelines. They will also tell you after take-off what devices can be used. Our last fight (in December) there were numerous people on their ipads, laptops, nintendo ds', and some on cellphone app's as well.
spleenstomper Posted February 22, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 22, 2012 Not on takeoff and landing. Many planes now have satellite TV and some have Internet you can purchase for like 5 or 9 dollars for the flight. (totally worth it in my opinion). The captain will make an announcement telling you when you can turn yours on... They have to be turned OFF, not in airplane mode, etc.
Rare Tapi Posted February 22, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 22, 2012 Celphones can be used in flight as long as they are in Airplane mode (not transmitting). Most other electronic devices can also be used in flight as long as they don't transmit either (like radios, etc). But yes, Kindles, laptops, games, etc are perfectly acceptable in flight. desaun Posted February 22, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2012 Pretty much, yes. But, like others have said, any device that transmits over cellular has to be put into "Airplane Mode" for the duration of the flight. However, when you're asked to turn the device off (usually during takeoff and landing) they mean turn it completely off as opposed to putting into sleep mode. spleenstomper Posted February 22, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2012 Thanks, desaun... My reply was probably confusing to someone who hasn't traveled in a while... Your answer is more clear...
