LoveTheSkinsAndYankees Posted February 24, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2012 I am the MOST non-technical person, and I was reading the FAQ section on NCL's web site about purchasing internet minutes. It says that all devices need to have Java-script installed to be able to connect to the ship's wifi. I have no idea what Java-script is, so I'm hoping somebody who has a Kindle Fire can tell me if it will work to send/receive email from home while I'm on board. Thank you!!! itzmered Posted February 24, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2012 you have to enable the java script on your kindle fire, you can do this via the menu, then click settings and scroll until you find the enable java script box and make sure it is checked
LoveTheSkinsAndYankees Posted February 24, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted February 24, 2012 Thank you, Chris! I knew somebody with better technical knowledge could help me out!!! I just found it, and it's already checked...
garycarla Posted February 24, 2012 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2012 As long as you buy the minutes and get a decent signal onboard, you can connect to the internet.
JMHAM1 Posted February 24, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2012 I don't have a Fire but mine is a regular Kindle 3G. I was able to grab signals to connect to email and download a couple of books no problem when we were docked. The 3G was free. Not sure how it works but it did. darrengs Posted February 24, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 24, 2012 Please clarify which ports that you got free 3G connections. The Kindle (not the fire or WiFi only models) use the 3g "Whispernet", you would not be able to access it for "free" using other devices. You can read more about it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200375890
JMHAM1 Posted February 24, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2012 Please clarify which ports that you got free 3G connections. I could not get one in Roatan but was able to in Belize, Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Your Kindle automatically found a suitable signal when you were in port. It won't connect on the ship because that system requires that you sign up for your service. gooch47 Posted February 29, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 29, 2012 Rats. I had a URL that pointed to a map showing everywhere you could get free 3G for your regular kindle and I can't find it. :( But I have used the regular Kindle on the Spirit cruise out of NOLA and got books in all but one place. And I've connected my Kindle Fire to the internet on a Princess Cruise ship with no problem.
